I'd always thought that once you got a blog you had a blog in perpetuity, and could continue to add to it, whether you were a paying member or not. That may have been right at one time, but it isn't now.

I wrote an update yesterday, a few hours after I'd had an email to tell me that my paying membership had expired, and got an "access denied" message. I thought it was a shame to waste it. Off I go...

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

trojan11 God's teeth! It's more than 24 hours. Shouldn't someone open Lesley's crypt? She must be starving by now.

food! (please)

Thank you, Trojan, for letting me out. You will be amply rewarded. Not sure how and when - need to think about that. :)

sparing his life might be an option lol

trojan11 I'll have you know that am, and have been for some little time, a card carrying member of the 'Undead'. My teeth are registered as lethal weapons and my saliva is, well, pretty bloody awful really.

I shall spare your life, Sir Trojan.

Anything else you'd like, you can think of?

trojan11 Well, A variety of new body parts, a new memory (old one's lacking these days)and a tin of Sainsbury's curried chicken complete with jagged bones and grissle so's I can write a real stinker of letter.

That all sounds remarkably straightforward. They're on their way!

You pull a disappearing act, Lesley?

Sorry - been pottering, and trying to catch up with a load of unanswered emails. Today I did some laundry, emptied and refilled the dishwasher, did some cooking, including making a veg stock from scratch and frying onions to make two dishes of pommes boulangere, one for this evening and one for the fridge, and zesting oranges for a bread pudding. I can get quite a lot done when I kick myself into action.

Had a chat with my sister-in-law and then my brother. The nephew with the broken leg is still with them, but mending at a reasonable rate. Another nephew rang me five days ago and mentioned that he was thinking of going to Israel for a few months. He's obviously a quick thinker, because he flew last night. His mother-in-law is back with them (I didn't know that) and a niece - my SIL's brother's daughter - spent a fortnight with them. I didn't know that either, but I think she's gone now. Isn't family communication a wonderful thing?

It is when it happens Lesley, my brother has not spoken to me or my mpther now for 2 years 7 months, not that bothers me. He never contacted to see how her knee op went and was told of her broken wrist neither him nor his wife have contacted her nor has my brothers daughter.

You have "them" in most families. I am inclined to think I have more than my fair share of queer folk, but what the hell. It's their loss not mine.

When I've rung the house to talk to my brother, nine times out of ten, the answer I've had is "I'll see if he's in," followed by a bellow of "Daddeeee!" "No, it doesn't look like he's in. No, I don't know where he is or when he'll be back..."

When I was in hospital last year, their eldest was in constant contact with Jonathan, and she was keeping the family updated with text messages, at least once a day. My sister-in-law has a mobile, so she got updates. My brother hasn't got a mobile phone, so he didn't.

It's always been like that, and I don't suppose it's going to change now.

Yes it's their loss, but Gary, I bet it bothers your mother. You're counting the years and months. Is she counting the days and minutes? Something's gone horribly wrong when children disown parents. What's (still) eating them, and what will put it right - money?

Gary, I understand.

Today, both Jonathan and his gf are playing in an orchestra near Waterloo. The last one he played in was for "young musicians on the threshold of a professional career" - which he isn't - and this one is for professionals and keen amateurs, which they both are.

Did you have a good time? I'm still up (1.06 am), not tired for some reason, which isn't like me at all. I think I've just got into "holiday mode" which is a shame as half term is over and back to work on Monday. Typical!

Thank you, it was a lovely concert. I was still up at 2am and suddenly it pinged back to 1am. Yippee another hour in bed!

It's a very big amateur orchestra, with some members who have got music degrees or performance diplomas, or some who have played since they were small and can't imagine not playing. Here's the programme, so you can all sing along.

Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre
Ravel - Pavane pour une infante défunte
Sibelius - Valse Triste
Tchaik - Valse des Fleurs from the Nutcracker suite
Tchaik - Symphony no. 5

Cheerfully and skilfully played, to a well-deserved full house.
