Is that like a pressé?

It is, it's exactly the same - you're pressé when you're late, and you have to beat people out of your way with your bus passé.
I think I'll just keep it to use on London buses, or to clean ice off my windscreen.
Tomorrow I'm going to South Ken to see the little darling playing in Mahler 5. Should be good. Night, everyone. :) |

Oh, this is horrible! Just how do you put that little squiggly thing above the e?

Cheat.
Google the word, hope you find an example of it with a squiggle, copy and paste.
It's a good alternative to be clever. |

I didn't cheat, I used my computer!
Try finding the Character Map... if you can't find it, ask me mañana. ;p

| I didn't think of that! I associate the character map with word processing, and it didn't occur to me to use it here. Found it - thank you. :) |

Character maps? Sounds like a 'Learn Psychology,' text book.
Oh dear, should I have used those worm thingies? Maybe I'll upgrade my laptop, then I can do *posey* on every post. Whoops, done it again! :) Oh look, a chat acronym. Does that count as clever?

Good word, Gary. There are a lot motre where that came from. Shmerel, shlemiel...
Three Eastern European Jews named Berel, Cherel, and Shmerel are talking about moving to the US.
Berel says "when I move to America, I'm going to have to change my name. They won't call me Berel any more; they'll call me Buck."
Cherel says "when I move to America, I'll also have to change my name. They'll call me Chuck."
Shmerel says..... "I'm not moving".

Trojan, try sounding not clever. I don't think you could if you tried. Which one's the acronym please?
It does sound like a psych textbook!
I'm off now. Final scrubbing up, then into London for a meal (!) and a concert. Jonathan has suggested Nando's. That'll teach me. :) |

Hope you have a good night, Lesley. Nothing wrong with Nando's, especially if your little darling is paying! I'd settle for Macdonalds if my boy were to pay :)

Thanks, Bev, it was lovely.
There's loud music in Nando's, but not loud enough to impede conversation, and most of the menu is a hundred variations on spicy chicken, but it's OK, the food was pleasant and the company was good.
There are people everywhere to tell you how things work and to help you when you get lost. I asked one of them where I could get a glass of water. She said five seconds and I'll bring it to you. Five seconds later, smiling broadly, she presented me with a shiny, empty glass. And that's how I found the machine that dispenses ice and water.
Will I go again? Given the opportunity, probably yes. It's quick and efficient (most of the time), which is essential if you've got two hours or less between end of rehearsal and beginning of concert.
The music was a delight. And considering that they only ever start rehearsing the day before, nothing short of miraculous. |

Sounds a lovely night Lesley.
Nandos is not a favourite but I'll go with my niece - who I'm sure has shares in the company.....
Mealtimes are a necessary 'thing' and it's so easy to have a delightfully chatty snapshot during a snack.
Rehearse more than the day before? Goodness No! They're Not Precious - They just need to check their seating. :D

Thank you, it was. Snack! that's the word! The desperate dash for food is probably much better served with something snacky, than with tablecloths and remembering which knife to use to eat your peas.
Mahler 5 lasts for about an hour and a quarter, without a break. By the time it finished, their faces were drooping with fatigue. Poor darlings could barely stagger to the pub. |

It's Jonathan's girlfriend's birthday today. When I saw them last week, I sneaked a card and pressie to him, in a bag with a load of bits in, without her seeing. She's got them now and says she likes them - good. He's taking her to dinner in the Oxo Tower. How the other half lives!
Tonight Jennifer Pike is playing for Bedford Music Club. It used to be a tradition that the first gig of the Young Musician of the Year would be for the club. She won nine years ago. Better late than never. |

Thank you, Gary, it's good to be getting out. Good for your mother for saying no and sticking to it.
This evening's concert was stunning. She started off with the Bach Chaconne (from the Partita in D minor) - follow that!
Then her accompanist came on, her father (Dr) Jeremy Pike, and they played
- Beethoven Violin sonata in A minor
- Debussy Violin sonata in G minor
- Clara Schumann 3 Romances
- Kreisler Praeludium & Allegro
- Sarasate Habanera
and Gershwin's "It ain't necessarily so" as an encore.
I now have a programme with two autographs to cherish. :)
December's will be a string quartet. Can't wait. :D |
