It took me most of the afternoon to write that last post. I was swamped with nice texts and phone calls, including one asking me about my voting intentions, and one from an investigator at the ambulance station. He's had twenty years on the ambulances, and says that the line he takes is that everything that happens, however trivial or commonplace, is important to the patient: and to imagine that the patient is a member of his family.
He's identified the crew, which wasn't difficult, and has asked them to provide a "sequence of events." This means taking them off the ambulance, separating them, and asking them to say what happened, in a short time - usually an hour - so they don't have time to talk to each other. They won't have seen what I wrote either. I thought they'd probably say "silly old bag's exaggerating," but they can't if they haven't seen what I wrote.
Richard, nothing to apologise for. You weren't taking over the thread: you were keeping the chat going.
GG, ultrasound is as you describe it - a scan with lots of gel. It isn't invasive. The worst that happens is that you get a bit slippery and there never seems to be enough paper to wipe all the gel off. I suggest you google it because, if a test is invasive, it's not an ultrasound. Or, better still, you could phone the people who'll be doing it and ask them what to expect. Good luck and have fun. :) |

PS The ambulance man is going to call me early next week, and arrange to talk about what happened, check there's nothing I left out! When do I ever leave anything out? :D
It might be over the phone, or possibly a visit. I'll put the kettle on and he said he'll bring the biscuits. I'll let you know. The last man I invited in for tea and biscuits was Merv. *sob* |

Hmm perhaps they are using the term 'ultrasound' loosely, then, because the piece of paper my doctor gave me as a "prescription" for the ultrasound, does mentions external and interal. I don't really see what they would get out of an internal ultrasound though... the idea is they're checking for ovarian cysts and it seems to me that if one can view a baby in utero by external ultrasound, than the ovaries should be able to be checked out that way too. That's what I'd assumed, anyway, but then my mom told me maybe not.

Lochalsh - thank you for the beautiful pics.
Please don't make it look like it was my word though. It's a Flanderism, honest!
Gary, good that you got the appointment of your choice. The video is a hoot.
GG, the more people you ask, the more versions you'll get. Ring up and get a proper answer. Please? |

I promise to make sure to ask what to expect, when they finally get me an appointment! I apparently cannot call them up myself and arrange a time for this. The doctor said "someone will call you with an appointment". Six weeks later, I thought maybe I'd misunderstood, so phoned her office, and the lady at the front desk told me a referral has been placed and it just takes awhile. So when I do set up a time, goodness knows when, I will make sure I know what it is they're going to do to me!

Note to self: stop being messenger. I will get shot.
I'm sleeping better than I have for a year, but not excessively - 7 or 8 hours, which is lovely. I've been taken out, and I've walked to the post box without stopping to lean on trees and get my breath, but it's been such a long time since I did anything more than get up, eat and go back to bed, that I forget.
There's a lot to do though, and the good thing though is that I can do a lot more than I could a month ago, and I'm also getting a lot of phone calls, which is mostly rather nice. I'm not reading anything intelligent yet. Haven;t got the concentration.
Kudos for trying, GG, and bad luck at falling foul of protocol. There's little more boring than medical protocol. |

Gosh, Gary. If only it were that simple!
It's Jonathan's birthday on Monday. I got a card while I was in the hospital, because I didn't know if I'd be out for his birthday, but actually the hospital shop has some of the best cards in Bedford.
The post box is only a minute away, thank goodness, but the final collection has been brought forward from 6.35 to 6.10. I missed that. Shouldn't have kept answering the phone. Got to the post box and found that the last weekday collection is 5.30 - when did that happen? - but it still says FRI on the box. So I've missed it, and they didn't change the day tag. It'll be collected at 11am today. Hope it arrives in time for Monday.
It did better than that - it arrived this morning. Slid onto his doormat at 11am.
Thank you, Royal Mail!
His plans are to go to Hendon this evening to pick up my car, drive it back here, and stay over. That'll be nice. The drive has been looking very bare. Tomorrow perhaps we can go out and I can buy him a birthday present. :) |

Sleep...I often wonder...when I dream I am sleeping, am I awake or asleep...or am I just dreaming.

Thank you all - I shall pass on all your happy birthdays. And the replacement can't come soon enough.
I put milk deliveries on hold a month ago, and I've just phoned to start again.
"I had intended to go away, but ended up taking myself to hospital instead."
That would normally be too much information, but I wanted to tell her that I'd be stopping again when I went back to hospital again. Hospital isn't a reason that people tend to argue with.
"Oh OK, no problem."
Why is it that whenever I tell someone I have to cancel something because I'm not well, they say "Oh OK, no problem"? It is a problem! I'm poorly!
Anyone else get that or just me? |

I agree Lesley when your poorly and have to cancel there is a problem your ill, people like that are so insensitive.
Last christmas i recall we were being delayed getting from inverness to edinburgh so i rang the resturaunt i had booked for us explaining the situation the guy said thank you so much for ringing and letting me know, not many peoiple do that. Then added he hoped we would visit his resturant soon, i ensured him we would and will be a week today.

Hi Lesley, glad to hear you are coping relatively well :) Please add my happy birthday wishes to Jonathan! Hope he has great day!
Yes, I've encountered many thoughtless answers to personal situations as well. Seems that most people are just rushing to get through their work, and you are just another faceless number to deal with. The worst response I ever got was at the obstetrician's office where I went before my second son was born. I had called to cancel my last appointment, and offered an explanation why -- I was rushed to the hospital for an emergency C-section, which was done by another Dr. All I got was an "OK, I'll cancel that then." No one at the office ever asked what happened, and I never heard a peep from my OB ever again. Needless to say I was more than miffed!
