One year there was a boy playing Ravel's Bolero on his flute in the Tube Station.
I think its the way the corridors are built, the archways, tiled floors. The music echoed. Beautiful.

That's interesting, about the busking licences. News to both of us!
Small problem with his haircut - I rang the place he was going to, to ask what waiting times were like, and I got a recorded message. The website says seven days a week but the outgoing message says Tuesday to Sunday. Good thing I rang before he got off the train.
Small problem with my hair too. I've been happily bottle brown for 15 years. I just picked up a box of "Excellence" which is a mammoth misnomer. It promised mahogany. It delivered brown hair and orange roots. Not a good look - it's the way home hair colour behaved in the 60s. I bought two. Back to Sainsburys to exchange the unused one for a different brand.
Picked Jonathan up from the station at 11, brought him home, fed him, dropped him off at the school at 1.30. Got to Sainsbury at 1.35. #simply having a wonderful Christmas time# aaaargh what happened to the promise of an amnesty till four? "No, it's twelve till twelve. Never been four. Who said four?" Careline. "Nah, it's always been twelve."
So now I'm going to see if I can repair the damage. That's once I've shown myself in public with two-tone hair. I don't want to do it twice.
Bolero on the flute? I bet that was haunting and wonderful. |

The semi-permanent dark brown "repair kit" was a waste of half an hour and a few pounds. If anyone asks, I shall just have to tell them I had an accident with a box of carrots. Well, it's sort of true.
The concert was great fun. When he started there, 14 years ago, the concert was a most serious affair. The school orchestra played, the school choir sang, and sometimes the audience joined in. The Director of Music divided us into three and got us singing The Holly and the Ivy, in three parts, to a tune nobody had ever heard before. Concert dress was full penguin.
It's a mixed school now. Concert dress is black trousers or skirt, and a single colour top, preferably bright. There were two choirs, half a dozen small groups, a jazz singer with one and a soprano with another, and a solo percussionist.
The orchestra didn't come on till the second half. They played Handel, Liszt, and extracts from Orpheus in the Underworld. The final piece was the galop infernal, for which eight girls in frilled black dresses danced the cancan on the front of the stage. Great fun, and completely unrecognisable from the first one we saw in 1997. |

The concert sounds wonderful! Almost as much fun as spending time with the kid!
As for the hair mess...I suspect a trip to a good salon is in order. A good stylist can usually fix whatever you've done. I KNOW this! ;)

Yes thank you, it was great fun. The school was boys only till about six years ago. I spoke to a man who said he'd been singing with the choir for 63 years (he started when he was two :p ) and he said his headmaster would be spinning in his grave at the sight of GURLS! His own opinion was that it should have happened years ago - presumably for the well-documented civilising effect that girls have on boys. Do you think that's true? I'm not convinced.
Sensible, and tempting, but I'm not sure I could find a salon appointment in mid-December. It's OK, though - I've got a reserve bottle of something dark brown. The hair mess won't last forever, but my resolve never again to buy anything with words like "copper" or mahogany" on the box: will. |

Concert sounds fantastic Lesley, as for the hair colour i can offer no resoloution, which is annoying as i can resolve a lot of problems,
Disaster has struck my mum again, Sister rang just after 6pm to inform me she had fallen out of her front door on her knee and was in pain and that a ambulance had been rung, but was not considered urgent so would take some time.
She got to hospital at 9.30 or rather my sister did and rang her husband, who i rang, at 11pm i had not heard anything so went to bed was woken up at 1 am by a text message, informing me my mum had badly broken her leg and was staying in hospital, waiting to ring my sister to find pout more but considerig her late night will leave it a bit as is only 8am

Don't you just love the way ambulance people think they can judge on a phone call? I shall be checking your blog for news.

Thank you, not to worry about the hair. Looking at it this morning in daylight, I think the dark brown has taken the raw edge off the RED! and it'll be back to normal in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, if I don't say anything, nobody will notice. Do you think that'll work?

I've had an email from my English teacher! Gosh! He says he remembers my name but not my face. I'm impressed he can remember anyone from that long ago, more so as he was there for a few years and would have had a lot of adolescents pass before his eyes. Now to compose an intelligent response. I may be some time... |

...No, people will notice, they just won't comment!:-) Where I live, there is a hair salon on every corner. Is getting an appointment hard for you?

| You're right, they won't say anything unless you volunteer the fact that you had an accident with a box of carrots... and then they'll change the subject. :) Getting an appointment isn't too hard but getting one in December is pretty hopeless. I'm mildly annoyed but I'll live. |

I'm sure you're fine. Have you looked around? Strange clothing and hair are everywhere!
I had green hair once.(or twice)Home hair color and chlorine from the pool...Yuk! The salon bleached everything out, and applied the proper color. I tried the 'hat' solution, but I'm just not a hat person...;)

Ooh lovely. One of sprog's flatmates had shoulder-length dark green hair for years. Deliberately!
Thank you, I feel better now. :) |

Come on everyone, some of us would do anything just to have hair! Remember the old rule, it always grows out after a few months whatever's happened to it, although for a man we can shave the mess off and still look OK...

Any colour you like, I've had orange and yellow before and had more attention from the same women who'd previously ignored me than ever before. I'd need some pretty serious glue as well though, and anti-allergenic.

Mark, not fair! You've got hair, and you've got warmth. *envy*
David, on its way - a mixture. You're on your own with the glue, though - egg white? double-sided sellotape? |

I rather thought I'd go festive this year and be red and green, especially now forball season is over but decided to just be normal and stay with red. :)
Warmth?
Southern Oz has warmth? *cries*

Red is good. We like red. (We wear it a lot.)
Don't cry - please! (((( MH )))) Perhaps Mark meant he was anticipating some warm weather eventually, and was getting his hair cut WELL in advance. What's it like in NSW? It's cold and grey and drizzly here. |
