Well you live and learn............I never knew there was an Aussie version of "that song". I must say it is very good, maybe US and Oz place names lend themselves to that better than UK?
Btw Rolf mentions Southport too in his version.....not that I would deem it a recommend! Lol
"Children" and "restaurants" are not two words that sit together very well IMO.........sounds horrific Lesley!

Nor did I till I looked it up. I've just gone off looking for more. There's a World of Warcraft parody, an Iraq version, an Aboriginal version (16 seconds), and here's the Danish one.

Any more?
In my experience, children and restaurants can, in theory, go perfectly well together. Saturday's was a whole upper floor dedicated to small children, who might have been tolerable if they'd been removed when the booking ended, but had outstayed their welcome by at least an hour, nearly two by the time we left, and counting. I blame the parents! :) |

Maybe we could blame too much red cordial and cake, Lesley? :D

They're all still alive, and all except Bruce Montague (Leonard) still active - they can do another one! |

Sprog has been regaling me with tales from work. He's spending his first speciality period in cardiology, so he can relate personally to a lot of what he's seeing, and he's loving every minute.
Seems the carrot uncake, warmed and smothered in custard, became a "delish" carrot pudding. Happy to hear it but with no plans to repeat the experiment.
Looking forward to a Mahler concert at the weekend. |

| Sprog has been invited to a theatre (operating) to watch surgery identical to what I went in for 18 months ago. |

| He's quite exhilarated. It took about four hours, and he was a yard away for the whole thing. |

| Having dinner Sunday with my second cousin, my son and my son's girlfriend in South Kensington, before the Mahler, and lunch with an old friend on Monday. I may be some time. |

I'm sure Jonathan was riveted by the surgery. Having been so involved already, he undoubtedly gained new appreciation for the care you received, and what you've gone through.
Thank you for the 'heads up' on how long you may be absent...Now we don't have to wonder if you were hit by a bus, or slipped under a train...;) Have a good time!

Thank, VM - how nice to have a visitor!
He spent so much time pacing up and down the hospital when it was me, and buttonholing any member of the theatre team who'd stop for more than ten seconds, that he knew more about my op than my cardiologist did. Well, till he got the letter from the surgeon. :)
He was riveted on Friday, and described it, and his involvement, in glorious and happy detail.
What I went through? I hadn't thought of it like that. I was thinking more about what he went through! The surgeon said I had a 90% chance of getting through it in one piece, and he was thinking about the 10%. I was thinking about the 90%. That's when I was capable of thinking. Most of it I just sailed through on a sea of chemicals. Best way. |

Yep, chemicals work pretty well, except that Jonathan didn't have the benefit...So, I really think this was good for him.
Hey, how come you're not eating or listening, or whatever you were doing?

True, but he had a man who worked on the ward, making him endless cups of tea (and telling him he couldn't have beer).
Bed now. Group scoff, and concert, tomorrow.
Night. :) |

Journeys were OK too. Big worry when I come home at the weekend is will I be able to get my car out. Professional drivers seem to think that disabled spots are fair game. When there are too many taxis in the station to fit in the taxi spaces, they use the disabled spots. Bet they'd be the first to bleat if I parked in a taxi space!
I've come back on Sunday nights to find my car blocked in by an unmarked coach - lights off and driver gone home for the night. It's only taken me ten minutes to wiggle out and get onto the road. They probably think people with disabled badges don't come out at night. There, I paid these drivers a compliment: I credited them with thinking.

I made another carrot cake and remembered to put self-raising flour in this time. May have a piece now. Talk amongst yourselves for a bit. |

Lunch with friend in a pub that's been converted to an Indian restaurant, followed by coffee and teacake in the new cafe in one of the shops, and then a nice big food shop.
Narf cold. :( |

As far as I know the police do not accept photographic evidence taken by the public as evidence, but the internet is a wonderful place (until Obama's law comes in anyway), and professional drivers, unlike ordinary ones, will definitely suffer if pictures of their taxis parked in disabled bays appear online. If I was there I'd do it myself, I have videos and lots of photos of driving offences as the camera can be in my pocket now and just take them when I see them. Just take them from the back and they probably won't see you, especially with a decent size zoom. And I'm only too pleased to host them on my site so they'll never know it was you. Maybe Merv would enjoy it actually. Is that a good idea?

That's an interesting proposition. He doesn't normally express hatred of four-wheeled traffic, but I can ask him... next time he sends me a joke, something he still does occasionally.
He was cantankerously technophobic till recently when he caved in a got a mobile phone, which is how he distributes his jokes.
A few weeks ago, he broke the final barrier when he bought a computer with all the trimmings. He said a neighbour was going to help him use it. I asked him the other week how he was getting on with it, and he said he has to find space to put it. Not holding breath. |
