Nothing of great import, just a nuisance. I crashed offline and couldn't get back on. One of the troubleshooter programmes said something about default gateway, and refused to go on... I checked all the connections, unplugged the router and plugged it in again, still off, gave up, slept, hoped it might be back in the morning but it wasn't. David talked me through some config things on the Command prompt, and then suggested that I reboot the router.
Success!
Moral: if you're going to reboot, do it properly! |

Glad it's nothing weird...It wasn't the little 'hobbit' problem, I guess? That seems to be fixed. :)

Ooh I may have got it! (I shall write to you.)
For ages I've been fed up with my phone shouting orders at me to delete text messages because the inbox is full, and getting broken messages till I frantically searched for messages it was safe to delete.
Yesterday I listed them in size order and got rid of a few pictures at 200 - 250k. Then I went to the other extreme and started on the messages that consisted of a smiley, or one word, or a train time followed by a request for a lift. I got the list down from 840 to 560. Sometimes the excitement of my life leaves me breathless.
Today or tomorrow my cousin's daughter is having brain surgery. |

| It did, thank you, Gary. My cousin rang to tell me that it took seven hours, she was awake but groggy, and she and her husband had been talking. "Groggy" is not a surprise! |

I "know" (from all the medical programs I watch);) that the brain has no pain responses. That is wonderful, as it would be so hard to do this surgery without the patient being able to say how it's going! I'm happy to hear that it went well for the girl.
...Waiting for the 'write to you' as I've forgotten how 'Hobbit' fit...:(

Fingers crossed, the worst is over now she's come round after a brain operation. Let's hope it's done the job.

She has Chiari malformation, and the op won't cure it but should help make life easier.
I'm entertaining a young gentleman this weekend, so may not be on as much... |

I couldn't collect my guest from the station, because my car battery is flat AGAIN, but I sent a mini-cab for him.
He was only here for about 24 hours but we managed to get a lot of food, chat and sleep, we got some work done, and we watched odd things on the internet, like short clips of heart surgery. Fascinating. :) |

I did, Gary, thank you. It was social and cooperative. I'm chipping away slowly at the accumulated junk of decades, and he binned a few things, and put the vacuum cleaner round. He also brought me a cup of tea in bed on Sunday morning. He can definitely come again!
Food is always different, because there are things I'll cook for two more often than I'll bother cooking for one, and he brought a sea bass, which was a treat for Sunday lunch.
Normally, if someone says you can watch this film of the surgery you're about to have, I'll say no thank you: please pass me that bucket of sand that I may stick my head in it. Just wake me up when it's all over. But yesterday, watching it was OK, because it's been done, and it was compelling. There are so many details that wouldn't even occur to a mere mortal, like cauterising the edges of a new wound before surgery can begin. Lots of oohs and aahs! |

Thanks, Bev, it was really nice. Short and sweet.
You hear all the best bits - he does have moments of being normal! But I'm happy with the way he's turned out. He's a lot nicer than I ever was and that's probably because he had better parents. :p
Sorry, couldn't resist it. |

A few weeks ago, he watched someone having the same sort of surgery I had. Today, he watched someone having the same sort of surgery he had. It will evoke very different emotions, I suspect.
I've unearthed a bright green carrier bag informing me that over 90% of St Michael goods are British made. Wondering if I should fill it with rubbish before I bin it, or frame it as a historical document. |

| Merv noticed that the car is under a blanket of snow, and has asked me if I need any shopping. Isn't that nice? |
