I'd always thought that once you got a blog you had a blog in perpetuity, and could continue to add to it, whether you were a paying member or not. That may have been right at one time, but it isn't now.

I wrote an update yesterday, a few hours after I'd had an email to tell me that my paying membership had expired, and got an "access denied" message. I thought it was a shame to waste it. Off I go...

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

You could be right!

I didn't choose the colour of the Jag - I effectively inherited it - and I think most people choose the car and accept the colour, within reason.

I knew someone who drove a 2CV in bright green. You could see it coming for miles, like a luminous nose bogey on the horizon. I wore enough orange and brown in the 70s and am not keen on wearing them now or driving round in them. I would definitely draw the line at nose bogey green.

C30 Ok I'll buy it Lesley - why did you wear lots of orange & brown in 1970's? Personal choice? Corporate uniform?
Fascinating.........!

Apart from current, all previous "pigs" have been bought as used vehicles, so colour was whatever happened to be for sale at a price I could afford at time.
I suppose when choosing, I'd opt for Blue. All the motor-bikes I rode were Blue & chrome.

Had a work colleague at Cambridge who drove a florescent-lime green Mazda.........see it coming from Bedford!
Often see a "shocking pink" car up here......havn't noticed the make.......I don't suppose the owner has any difficulty in finding the car in a crowded car park.

Ray, they were the colours of the 70s - earth tones - the whole spectrum from cream/beige/taupe to the darkest earth. Better stop before I run out of words and am forced to admit that they were - ahem - fashion. Sorry. :(

Hmmm - car colour......apart from being very attracted to a 1968 Jag in British Racing Green and a golden E-Type all my cars have been white.

Daddy's Girl bought a white Toyota, My Pet Nerd inherited My white Toyota, husband Steve has a white Landcruiser and ute, my BMW is white......

Just seems to happen.

Please can we not talk about Jaguars? *sniff*

Does that mean that all four of you are fastidious, status-seeking extroverts?

Sorry Lesley *hugz*.
I love British Kitties too.....*empathetic sniff*

As for all four of us being 'fastidious, status-seeking extroverts'?
Welcome to My World!

Eurostar, shameful… And that’s putting it nicely (pardon me if I seem a little cranky—it’s been one of those days)

“Apologize for inconvenience” is much the same as “hassle free” (I keep encountering situations that make me think I’m finally beginning to understand the word contradiction, and yet I still don’t)

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused" also translates as “tis life”

I think also translates as "suck it up" Jaz.

Public relations decrees they need to keep the captives returning, even if there is no other option and by using the word 'inconvenience' they try to empathise with whatever is being experienced - as an inconvenience!
Such a trite word and covers a multitude of 'sorry events'.

Does this mean I should think twice about booking Eurostar if I have a choice?

C30 I guess the nearest thing to an impossibility is to find a "apologetic apology"! Customers, as is well known are merely one of life's "occupational hazards", and the welfare of which, I have yet to find any company GENUINELY concerned about.

C30 MarchHare..........I traveled (once) on Eurostar and experienced no problems what-so-ever, but maybe just struck lucky?

If you search online for Eurostar, you will find too many complaints to count. They seem to be at their worst in cold weather, though.

I don't suppose they have much say in how the French "run" their rail infrastructure, and I can understand how passengers trying to escape might put themselves in danger, but I can't understand why they prevented, or at least failed to encourage, the outside world from bringing aid into the train. They needed food, drink (although there was water, and enough booze to sink a battleship), medicines, medical equipment, and staff who weren't completely clueless about what to do in any sort of emergency.

That was the most disturbing thing, that they were fine with things going well but didn't have the training or the equipment to cope with things going wrong.

I can't believe I haven't posted this:

It's a very good piece by an experienced journalist.

"...need to keep the captives returning..."
They're doing this by throwing out free return tickets. You can buy some of the people some of the time. I think the answer is, use the free journey if it doesn't matter when you arrive, but give yourself a sporting chance by doing it in good weather. There will also be people who will never touch Eurostar again if you paid them!

Generic apologies and empathy I think, C30.
Covers everything and it means they Did apologize!

That is a scary piece Lesley.
French police seem to take their policing to an interesting level don't they.
Reminds me of G & S's 'Bold Gendarmes"!

Maybe they didn't want any possible legal issues regarding the woman's 'treatment.
How deplorable that the police didn't assess her situation and that train staff didn't appear to have any first-aid training.
Not as if trains don't Ever break down.

Wonder if they would have arranged something if a video of the situation had been posted on-line.

Now have me seriously considering options for our trip in September.
Need to train from Zurich to Split and possibly from Rome to London. Hmmmm

Ooh I've been to Split! It's a good one to talk about to people who think you've made it up.

When are you going/coming, how long will you be travelling, and how long will you be in London for? I'm sure you'll be OK on Eurostar in warmer weather, but pack some food and medicines and an aluminium blanket just in case!

I'm going to have an early night. Hope it works. It's already tomorrow here but that doesn't mean I'll sleep.

Night everyone!

C30 Sailed fairly close to Split when visiting Dubrovnik way back in 1962............

That may have been where we took a trip in a wildly vibrating very small boat, and the skipper offered us Slivovitz to help ward off seasickness. I can't remember if it worked... hic.

Muspratt Oh to be on a continent that was a train ride away from Paris! Sigh!!!! I would not care if the Eurostar was delayed for hours...oh to be in Paris or London for that matter in the springtime. A train ride of 8 + hours from Perth would get you to Kalgoorlie a mining town which is v hot, dusty but has heritage which for the most part Western Australia lacks...grass is greener obviously

Yes I am, Gary, thank you - and I shall start again tomorrow evening with a meal, almost certainly in a "Jamie" restaurant. This is Saint Jamie of the Olive Oil, and it'll be my first visit.

Muspratt, on this occasion the grass was whiter. It was snowing the whole time they were stuck outside Lille. Given the choice between sitting on a train with no food in the snow, and sitting on a train with no food in an Austrailian desert ... I think I'd want to stay at home!
