Wombats are chubby critters, rather stubborn and the following is from a wildlife website:
"The Tasmanian common wombat (vombatus ursinus) is an animal of great charm and determined personality. They are snuggly and affectionate when young, though become somewhat trying in adolescence."

T'Pot is what Vulcans drink tea out of. It's in Baby and Child Care next to potty training. I think.

| David, that's exactly what it is and where. I was stumped when I was reading it. It was only when I said it aloud... |

Chuckle, chuckle...........it (T'Pot) was a joke name (maybe used in a Fanzine) circulating in Star Trek Fandom during the 1980's!

Oh dear - I missed so much by not being a Trekkie. *sighs wistfully*

It was a pleasant evening and the travelling was smooth till the last leg - getting home from the station.
With half an hour to go, I rang the local cheap-and-cheerful minicab firm to book a life home. The train gets in at 10.40 so please pick me up at 10.45. That may have been a mistake, because the car rolled up at 10.50. I added five minutes so they didn't have to. They're always the same five minutes late, so I need to learn from that.
What usually happens is you prove they're picking up the right person by telling them your name as you collapse gratefully into the car.
Jonathan phoned me just as the cab appeared. He'd also rung me just as I was getting out of the minicab that took me to the station. Just adds to the fun.
I approached the car and tried to open the back door while yelling my name through a crack in the window. What's going on? It's locked. Try the front. That's locked too. Asked him if he was going to let me in. Well, not quite in those words.
"I have to know your name."
I already told you my name. Twice.
I was on the point of telling him to bog off, when he unlocked the door. I descended gradually from fishwife mode, and asked him what the hell he was doing.
He said he would love to pick me up (right, thanks) but would get into trouble if he picked up the wrong person. The man on the phone had given him two names - if A isn't there, pick up B. He described the other person. I couldn't see her.
So what if both A and B are there and waiting? A calm little daytime phone call is in order I think.
And for the future? It's worth paying a little more not to have to deal with idiots. Well, not quite so many idiots!

Last night looked like a rather big fund-raiser. It's a young, semi-professional orchestra, and it relies on donations for its survival. Their normal concerts are fairly well-attended, with tickets at around £10 to £20.
Last night's offered the concert, best seats, followed by a champagne reception and dinner afterwards, and it was heaving. So that's the trick. It's it's £20, they won't bother. If it's nearly £100, they'll be breaking the door down. Clever.
There wasn't an interval, presumably so they could get to the food quicker. One of the women waved a food invitation at me and asked me what was the difference between a reception and an interval. Confusing. |

"... book a life home..."
Of course that should have been book a lift home, but I'm wondering if it's Freudian! |

The explosives will keep - and yes thanks, it was a good evening.
Jonathan was sitting behind the leader (technicals: first violins, outside second desk), which meant he was visible to all, and I enjoyed watching him playing and grinning his head off.
Afterwards, I met them in the bar. He was still resplendent in full penguin, and one of the dinner guests was praising the orchestra, and then saying to him, if she had a daughter the same age as him, she'd throw her at him. A most entertaining compliment.
Enjoy your new recordings! |

| Sorry, that wasn't a proper answer. I didn't get a look at the daughter, who wasn't there and may not even exist, but Mummy was tall and thin and posh, and Daddy was very approachable and smiley, which is absolutely no use for deciding what their progeny are like, but they were pleasant and friendly so, with luck, the children will be too. And I did have a good time - thank you! |
