I'd always thought that once you got a blog you had a blog in perpetuity, and could continue to add to it, whether you were a paying member or not. That may have been right at one time, but it isn't now.

I wrote an update yesterday, a few hours after I'd had an email to tell me that my paying membership had expired, and got an "access denied" message. I thought it was a shame to waste it. Off I go...

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

We wish we didn't need them, but we are grateful that they exist. Most of the time!

The latest Honda Civic is in Luton. Sprog described it as blue so I immediately envisaged a calming sky blue. Found it online and it's green. No, that's not right: it's GREEN! Moving on... Next please.

Shopping mess explained. They have my hotmail address and that's where they sent the £20 voucher. I got irritated with hotmail and registered with my newer gmail address. They couldn't apply the voucher because it's strictly attached to the hotmail address. The email didn't disappear - I was looking in the wrong inbox.

It was suggested that I change my email address. I tried to change the account email to hotmail so I could use the voucher, but it said I can't because it's in use somewhere else. I tried to create a new account but I got the same message. So I've written back, with appropriate apologies and explanations, asking for help. I have a substantial (by my standards) order, languishing in a virtual trolley, and a code for a £20 discount, and have not been able to reconcile the two. Watch this space...

The blood test results were equivocal, my GP said. One says infection, the other says gout. Presumably nothing says tendonitis. Infection sounds like the cellulitis I thought it might be, and gout goes with the fact that I had an awful lot of liver and red grape juice, and more red wine than usual - not much, but the norm is nothing - while I was away. The antibiotics are probably helping because I haven't taken any paracetamol today and my poor beleaguered foot is looking a bit better.

Shopping online has its uses, like socialising online can keep your sanity if you can't get out. One of the things the Ocado website does is give you a guaranteed minimum product life, which is useful. It just takes a while to find things. I got bored trawling through categories to find things I wanted, but the search facility was quite good.

Ray, nine times out of ten the emails I send companies aren't answered the first time. "Oh dear - we don't appear to have received it." No, of course you didn't - of course I believe you. If you have a few minutes to spare, phone Tesco on 0800 505555, before 6pm in the week (earlier at the weekends, I think), and make your displeasure known. Let us know how it went.

Thanks J. I shall try to make more noise. Oh and I lied about being quiet. Sorry.

Besides the incredible cost Civics were wonderful cars when we had them in the 70s and 80s, I passed my test on one and the second was a top of the range job and took the journey to Liverpool like sitting in an armchair. The newer ones are a lot bigger and probably less economical but very reliable and comfortable although nothing is like a Jag, not even the new ones.

Comfortable is good, reliable and economical will be a nice change. As long as there isn't too much road noise. I don't think there's much road noise in a Jag, which means I've been spoilt.

Ignore that about economy. I don't do enough miles to be particularly bothered about mpg. I just want a car that'll get through its MOT without a second mortgage.

I take the bus to work. It's more than reasonable and actually runs when it says it will lol. We do have a vehicle, but that's mostly for hauling the camping crap THAT WE NEVER USE! lol (so lots of gas saved there lol). The husband has the luxury of a company vehicle for getting HIMself to and from work, which will end in August when he retires. I've suggested that he purchase a grocery cart (you know, the kind with two wheels). Should get him anywhere he really needs to go and if not, well it's good exercise LOL

Am amazed what blood test can and cannot tell Lesley, Seems your on the right track hope it gets sorted.

Having never driven cannot quote on a car, just been driven to the shops or train station by my mum or sister.

Sister claims best car she has ever had is her current car a Saab mpg apparently good and is safe to drive, which is good as she does 100+ miles a day to get too and from work.

Hope that you get the car you want soon so you get to travel how and when you want too.

Spent (wasted) most of the day on the phone.

Got some insurance quotes on the Civic, some of them hilarious, like the £2,610 for me, £5,216 for Jonathan and me, because the car had been modified - it has alloy wheels. Alloys come as standard on this car - isn't that the sort of thing motor underwriters are supposed to know?

Later, a proper company quoted £330 and £660. If the alloys had been a modification, they would have increased the premium by 10% - £33 or £66. Bit different from £2,000 or £5,000. Wonder which one I'll ask next time?

I got insurance quotes first and rang the garage second. The car was sold yesterday. There's a moral in there somewhere.

But it's still shown as available. "It takes a day or so for cars to come off the internet." That makes it sound like the cars don't want to leave their cosy online adverts, not that the garage staff don't mind misleading punters.

Keep looking. First - sleep.

veronikkamarrz Honda's are a dime a dozen here...Not meaning the price.:) Good cars, I'm thinking, but it should be something you REALLY like. Hope you have good luck with whatever brand you choose. :)

Thanks Jazmee. I do look when I remember, but the cars we see are either too far away or sold. I spotted one that looked promising, and only a couple of miles away, but it was an old one from when that model had some gearbox problem. There's a car for me... somewhere a car for me... bright and shiny with room to spare, waits for me somewhere ...

C30 Can't interest you in 3 wheels and moves (albeit eventually) then Lesley? No need to worry about road noise, you wouldn't be able to hear that above the engine noise! I'd even throw in a shoe-horn to facilitate entry and exit! Rofl

Thanks, all - good wishes will be passed on. :)

When I was going from the train terminus to the restaurant, there was an announcement that one of the lines was "experiencing severe delays" because of a person under the line at Wembley Park. Five hours later, the "severe delays" were being blamed on a person under the line at Finchley Road. I used the Tube every day for 22 years. That's probably enough.

I took Jonathan a card and a bunch of flowers - in deep, manly colours, of course! - and he was pleased. He said nobody had ever given him flowers before. Awww.

The food was brilliant and abundant and, because the owners recognised us and they knew it was his birthday, they brought out drinks we hadn't ordered (Prosecco and fresh raspberries drool) and a pud we hadn't ordered - more raspberries and tiny biscuits dotted round a ball of pistachio ice cream and a chocolate fondant pudding (DROOL!), accompanied by three forks and spoons. We left with big smiles and two doggy bags.

Ray, if I'm going to have three wheels and a shoehorn, I'm plumping for the pavement scooter. I'll be able to terrorise so many more people on the pavement than on the roads. Watch out for little old lady with evil glint in her eyes!

Belated birthday wishes to your son and heir, Lesley and hope the car hunt isn't wearing you down too much.

Thank you, Bev. :D

I've given up on the car hunt for now, since I saw something two miles away and Jonathan said no, it's an old one from when the gear-boxes were rubbish. Can we remember being young enough to know everything about everything? I can't. :(

Last week I placed my first ever online order and was rather pleased with it. Five minutes ago I placed my second. I'd avoided online shopping for ages, partly because I was able to wander round looking at the shelves, and quite enjoyed doing it, and partly because I resented the £5 delivery charge. The one I've just done is coming at a very quiet time so it's freee!

No more waddling round the corner, or puffing up the road, for milk either. I'd like to carry on supporting doorstep delivery but stopped when it meant glass bottles rattling on the doorstep at 3am - or plastic jugs left in the sun.
