And I'm with you four times! I hadn't really thought about it but now you mention it - why?
Latest news from the world of online shopping. Yesterday's shopping came at about ten o'clock in the evening. You can pay £5 or £6 delivery at popular times, and Sunday, but it's cheaper mid- or late evening. So I book for ten-ish and almost always get a call at least an hour beforehand: "I'm early - is it OK if I come now?" Oh yes.
I'd ordered a little tub of chocolately things as a treat... I hadn't tried these before, but they were on offer, which helped. The security on this tub was a strip of plastic round it, the sort that has a little tab bearing the legend "press" or "break fingernails here" to open. Except this didn't have the tab.
Good thing their helpline doesn't close till eleven. At five to eleven, I rang, described the product, and asked if it was supposed to have a security tab, because this one has just got a gap.
The woman on the phone was very pleasant and friendly, which was a nice surprise considering it was five minutes before the line closes. Yes, she said, it should have a tab. She said she'd refund the cost of the tub and, as a gesture of goodwill, refund my £2 delivery charge.
I don't know what happened and I'm sure they won't either. It could have been someone in the stockroom sampling the goods, but I don't think that's very likely, because the odds are they'd be seen and it would be more than their job was worth.
More likely, I suspect, is that they were bought and returned, and someone threw them back into stock without checking the packaging. This doesn't do much for my faith in the system.
I think the gods of junk food are trying to tell me something.
I also think the company's got away pretty cheaply. I wrote to them again at eleven o'clock this morning when I was a bit more compos mentis than when I'd [honed. Watch this space for the answer I won't get. |

Apparently every return generates a report which is thoroughly investigated. We hope you will continue shopping with us.
Yes, for the time being, but with more vigilance and less confidence. |

Sorry about your unwanted visitor. Go away Arthur!
I think the service is a godsend. Reading the reviews helps, and then you just have to be as vigilant as you would be in a real shop. For instance, you wouldn't buy something with a broken or absent security tab. Having got one, I wasn't going to accept it and certainly wasn't going to eat any of them. Who knows how it's been stored, whose sweaty hairy unwashed hands have been digging in it - or even how many they've eaten! Ugh!
The singer's not bad but I have always hated that song. It's a trite dirge and I have no idea how it became a standard - perhaps enough people thought it contained Deep Wisdom, like Lennon's Imagine. IMHO! |

Merv popped in last night. He's off to some Greek island in a few days, and I believe that he is going to meet a person of the female persuasion. I offered him a cup of coffee, and he said "Yeah, all right." *sigh* Nothing changes. Still Mr Etiquette.
Paid off the mortgage last week. Nice to get one more nuisance out of the way! |

Well not exactly *with*: she's already gone out there, and he's going out to meet her. Women are fine, and the more, the merrier, but relationships are something else.
Thanks, and I know how much you enjoy them. Till the tribute thread pops up, perhaps this'll do.

Thanks, Bev, feels good - just one degree lighter.
Next step is to find a bit of money for a car, before winter starts. Last week was summer, so not long to wait. Now Jonathan's too big to send up chimneys, I shall have to resort to selling a kidney.
I've tried, but the people I've asked if they want to buy a kidney have all said the same thing:
"No thanks, got nowhere to put it.! |

My niece has three kidneys. And two appendixes (appendices??). And her internal organs are all backwards (meaning the ones on the left should be on the right). She didn't find out about all this (since she was never sick with anything worse than a cold) until she had ultrasounds for her first pregnancy. I'd tell her to save one of her kidneys for me since mine are dysfunctional, but unfortunately she's not actually a "blood" relative.

Unusual but pleasant day yesterday. Up at eight (aaargh) for a (routine) GP appointment at nine.
From there to the high street, and a quick visit to the bank and a shop, and then a first-ever wander into a hairdressers that's staffed entirely by closely-monitored students of the local hairdressing college.
I got a student who was about a fortnight away from qualifying, and gave me an interesting, fresh cut I'm delighted with. Shampoo, cut and blow-dry: £8, which is less than a third of the going rate.
Lunch with someone I've known for more than ten years but never talked to for more than five or ten minutes. We ate and drank and chatted for four hours. She had to catch a local office before it closed, otherwise I think we'd still be talking.
Phone call from son returning from work: phone call from an old friend who, like me, doesn't know the meaning of a quick telephone conversation; followed by a call from my cousin. My cousin used to begin every conversation by listing and describing every medical appointment he and his wife had had since our last conversation, and every one planned for the coming six months. Yesterday he regaled me with details of his private medical insurance. He also makes sure I'm always completely up to date with his mobile phone tariff.
At nine o'clock, Sandy rang the doorbell. Back to the phone to tell my cousin I have a visitor. "Just a couple of things," he said, and he told me two things he's told me before and weren't worth hearing the first time.
Good to see Sandy for the first time since her honeymoon.
At ten o'clock, I managed to have dinner.
Early night (1.30, early for me), slept like a log, up at ten. Today I can barely string a sentence together. |

Goodness – cousin sounds like a charmer.

Thanks, both! Actually, I think I was up before 9.30, which is even worse. Much more of this and I could be keeping the same hours as people in England, instead of America.
Tomorrow I've got another (routine) GP appointment at ten o'clock, and there's a soprano/piano recital in the evening, only five minutes' walk, and I'm probably going to that. Then nothing till Tuesday - O joy.
Today I cleaned a bit of my keyboard - not all of it - that would be silly. I pulled up a few keys that weren't moving and found what was stopping them - enough crap to grow mushrooms. Now they're moving and making loud clicking noises again, and the space bar doesn't work unless I hit it dead centre. Perhaps it'll be easier if I put half a packet of crisps under it. Any ideas? |
