They rarely ever do. Not worth our time.

| Probably professionals, if they restrained the staff without injuring them. Let's hope they're caught or their next target is live cables. |

I heard the cable story on the Radio 4 news this evening, and we knew yesterday. Dreadful timing for you but at least the railway rose to the occasion which with so little delay is quite possibly a miracle.

| At least it went wrong on the way home and not on the way there! As each empty minicab turned up, there was a call for people going to Bedford and Flitwick, so I guess they were getting rid of longer-distance passengers first. Suits me. And I got home less than an hour late, which I thought was pretty impressive. |

I shared with three Bedford people, all in possession of 16-25 railcards. It's easy to forget how little some under-25s know compared with how much they think they know. One of them said it should be simple to source repair materials and get the trains running. I asked him where you would find someone capable of carrying out the repairs at half-past midnight. They couldn't even find buses - I'd like to see them find a cable engineer.
The drivers are only contracted to take us to our nearest station, not home. Shame. I told the driver I would normally take a minicab home from the station, and the fare is £5.
I asked him if he'd take me home for £5, and he said yes. Two of them were happy to walk home to Shakespeare Road, and the other boy offered the driver his usual fare to Castle Road, which he said was £4. I don't think you can go anywhere in Bedford for £4. The driver wasn't daft. He said make it £5 and I will. Cute! |

Calm today, London tomorrow for a concert, Brighton on Sunday. I haven't been to Brighton for YEARS!
Great time to be making plans. London last Sunday was more or less normal but Kings Cross on Wednesday was annoying - slightly more annoying than usual, if that were possible - and I can't begin to imagine what it's going to be like now except it'll probably be a challenge. I should get to Brighton just in time for a bit of rain. :) |

Thanks, Gary. I was talking to a friend and not watching the Olympics opening ceremony (she had been watching a gardening programme) and we were wondering if there had been two incidents - the midnight theft that brought the system to a complete stop, and a morning rush-hour attempted theft, that got no further than severing the cables.
Seems to be OK now but I'm still packing for an extra day away just in case! |

| No, it wasn't what you or Merv would call a date, but a forum meet of two people. |

"You or Merv" OMG, I think I may have been insulted! I didn't mean anything. I just thought it sounded like a date...Oh sorry, 'Forum meeting'. :)

Sounds like you had a nice time Lesley well deserved, and by looks of it no train troubles.

Sorry, VM, wasn't meant to be insulting. Just badly expressed. Plead tiredness! Second attempt:
"It wasn't what people or Merv... "
That's nearer what I meant. Hope it's better. (((())))
Yes, thanks, Gary. The woman sitting opposite me got off at Gatwick, so I changed to facing forwards; and then a group of Chinese teenage tourists got off at London Bridge, and hardly anyone got on. I was told that the rest of the train was heaving. I just got lucky. :) |

Don't Microsoft look after their customers well! I got a phone call from a man who said he was calling from Windows because there was a very serious problem with my computer. Apparently some files I'd downloaded had infected my computer with some very serious malware. Gosh how scary is that? And wasn't that kind of him!
I asked him where he was calling from.
"The office of Windows."
No, whereabouts are you? geographically?
"I'm in the United garble garble mumble mumble gibber."
The where? I didn't hear that.
"Can you hear me, madam?"
I couldn't hear what you said.
A few more exchanges like that, and a few seconds while he waited for me to answer, and I still don't know where he was. Eventually, he gave up and put the phone down.
I know I handled that badly. I know I should have given him my NI number and bank details. He might have wanted to know my date of birth and household income too.
Or I could just have done what Tezza did - tell him to go away because I haven't got a computer. |

No Lesley you should have said
Can i have yourname and phone number you have rang a murder scene and we need to eliminate you from the list of potenial suspects.
when they start stuttering and waffling just say a name and ask for the number to be traced and a car dispatched to arrest them.
Gaurantee click dead line in seconds.

| I thought about it, but didn't have the energy. It was almost as gratifying listening to the mounting desperation in his voice as I was stopping him talking about what he had rung me to talk about. Whatever that was. How kind Microsoft impersonators are, I suppose. |

Only reason i mentioned it Lesley was i had my first un invited call in ages on saturday afternoon, some ppi claims company, They hung up quicker then i could say jack robinson. Did have a second call from a line manager about 10 minutes later he has removed my phone number from their database and apologised for disturbing me, the young man who rang apparently was panicing.
