Me neither, but the reviews help me decide. I might think it looks like the answer to my prayers, and then three consecutive reviewers say they need ear plugs with it...
I have now decided that calling a vacuum cleaner lightweight means it's lighter than a car.
The man who installed the kitchen came at 8.20 this morning to check the guttering. He said it had come adrift from the weight of moss in it (ugh). He put screws in to hold it up, and was on his way before nine.
I will not go back to bed.

I texted my niece this afternoon, to ask if she was leaving or staying in for a while, and she answered that she was running away. I offered to harbour her but haven't heard anything so I have no idea where she is!
Putting things back is cathartic because I'm also not putting things back. A lot of things went when I cleared the decks, and things are still going. Friend Sandy has offered me a lift to Emmaus. We can drop things off, have lunch, and resist buying anything new. In theory. |

I did a bit of 'clearing out' after the carpet was done...Not much, but a few things that really shouldn't have been left out, to begin with! I hate to say, but 'the ironing board' finally went home to the closet...Do people actually still have those? ;) Not closets!

I brought my ironing board with me when we moved here in 1986. I used it all the time, ironing cotton, linen and silk clothes, and for a lot of dressmaking and a bit of tailoring.
It's propped up against my bedroom wall at the moment. I haven't used it since about 1990.
It's not half-past midnight yet, and I'm yawning. Most odd. |

Last night I got eight luxurious hours' sleep.
Phone rang at nine o'clock this evening. It was someone I haven't spoken to you for eight years. We spent two hours catching up.
Two of her children are sharing a flat a mile from where mine lives! |

"I haven't spoken to you"? Quit while you're ahead!
She was married for more than 40 years to my husband's oldest friend. He died a few months ago, jubilant at having reached his 84th birthday. She's 16 years younger than him, and she has Alzheimers, just like her mother.
Merv called earlier. He wanted me to resolve an argument about a TV scene. He says the line is Don't tell him, Pike, and his pedantic friend says it's Don't tell him your name, Pike. They've got a bet. If Merv is wrong, he'll give the other man £100. If he's right, he will have an apology, possibly accompanied by a little grovelling.

Apart from his irrevocably sexist vocabulary:
- man talking = conversation;
- woman talking = interruption,
he was perfectly well-behaved.
He admired the kitchen, and went home to gloat. |

Oh yes. He really was no trouble. If he pops in occasionally, and doesn't make lewd suggestions, I won't mind.
He gets chat, questions answered and bets sorted, and the occasional cup of coffee. The instant he hints at more, he's out again, and stays out. |

He did say one thing that made me laugh. The ban on smoking in public, which seems to be a EuroDiktat, and nothing to do with our health really, has now been inflicted on Greece. They put up with it for two months, then said Nah, not for us, and went back to the way they were before.
Why can't we do that? We tut without raising our voices, and may even go as far as a genteel cough. And that's it. We just lie back and take whatever is thrown at us. We're much too well-behaved for our own good. |

Niece spent most of her time in hospital champing at the bit and saying all she wanted to do was go home. At last, suddenly, everything came together, and they were talking about discharging her.
Suppose they want to keep you in? “I’ll run away!” I offered to hide her and Jonathan offered to harbour her. She told her father she was going home, whether they discharged her or not. They discharged her.
Her husband was standing by her bed with wheelchair at the ready. She got the nod to go, and she ran. Well, he ran.
Now she has to remember the things that hospital staff have been remembering for her, like food and medicines. She has had visits, and food, from her parents and two sisters, one of whom lives almost next door, and her husband is coming home at lunchtime. On balance, home is probably better, because she can get some sleep. |

Finished eating this evening, relaxing, phone rings, number unavailable - out of area. That usually means a call from abroad, although I got an "out of area" call last week from Wales.
Good evening - are you Mrs ... the house-owner ... my name's Michael... I am phoning to tell you about grants available...
Grants are for loft lagging, which I have, or cavity wall insulation, which I won't have because my house walls are solid. So it was a waste of my time and his: and it was nine o'clock, which is not the friendliest time to make unsolicited phone calls to strangers.
I said Stop! but he carried on talking. Stop! Still talking. He's not a recording, is he? No, can't be because he was conversing when he first rang. STOP! He's hung up on me!
I was a bit disappointed, because there was so much I wanted to say to him. Maybe next time. |

I'm very happy to hear that the niece is on the way home, and going to be fine. Wonderful news.
Because of the elections going on, I get at least five (5) messages everyday. These people seem to know EVERYTHING about us, so why don't they know that I voted 'absentee' on October 13, 2012?
I am so tired of the election crap..I'm just waiting for November 06, 2012. :)...Done!

Normally, a cardiology check-up consists of tests - an electrocardiogram, or an echocardiogram, or even both - followed by a chat with a cardiologist. Too many cardiac patients and not enough staff mean that, for the first time ever, my cardiac MOT is in two instalments, a week apart.
Today was the echo, performed - another first - not by medical staff but by the chief technician, whose claim to fame is that he has got up the noses of every female member of hospital staff and probably half the female patients too. He asked if we'd met, and assumed that we must have, so he can't remember that last year I took issue with his behaviour and rang the hospital patient liaison office, and he was made to apologise to a trainee GP for patronising the life out of her (while leaning on my thigh). Today he was cheerful, courteous, quick and proficient, and said that everything was working well. Perhaps he just doesn't like sharing his professional space with women.
I have to go back next week to hear what a shiny new registrar thinks. No, it doesn't make any sense to me either. It's the first time I'll be seeing a registrar rather than my cardiologist. I'll take that as a good sign. |

I don't like the sound of the chief tech...Even though whatever you said must have made an impression...It looks like he's just 'smiling' his way around. We'll see, I guess. :)
Good luck with the second half. Looks like you are doing well! ;)
