Must stop my wrist slapping have failed a lot of friends so miserably by not saying hi.
None more the Lesley who i car for as a friend so much, just that i have been suffering with my hands and been so hypnotised by Les Miserables movie, having been given a dvd for review purposes only by a reporter friend who said it would been shredded if i had not wanted it and they knew i was such a fan.
Have now watched 16 times once in the cinema and halfway through 17th viewing.
Trust Lesley you are keeping well and that this year is a great one for you.

Yes thanks, Gary, keeping well and enjoyed my nephew's wedding at the end of the year, followed by a couple of days of feasting with family. Given the choice between celebrating with my brother's clam, and standing on the Embankment watching fireworks, I really don't have to think at all.
I know you like Les Mis, but 16 times? Can you join in all the words, and is there anything new left to notice? |

| My brother has created a dynasty, a tribe, a clan. He has not created a clam. |

Jellabi is only not as good as ras malai but well worth a try, and the third is rasagulla which is sponge balls in the same fashion. Ras malai also had cardamom seeds in like some of their sweets which also adds to the experience.

Thank you, VM - he has made a serious clan - ten children, eight of them married, twenty-one grandchildren and counting.
David, I'm convinced, I'm convinced! And I do like cardamom. I shall have a look round and see what I can find. |

Lesley i have known most of the words of LEs Mis for 27 years now. as nothing on tv at the moment appeals to me i don't mind am also playing spot the west end star as they are lots of them, you need to look as the make up is so good.
Waiting for Amazon to deliver my cd should be here in day or so.
Watched the Globes last night and was Good to see Les mis pick up awards, and Ann Hathaway embarass the director by saying she would not tell the world he was crying when she sang her main song like she was, and that he was not the only oneas camermaen and crew were too. And yes i did too at the cinema and have since at home watching it,

| I've read that she's impressed everyone with this role, and I'm sure this is one instance when the director won't mind being embarrassed at all. |

I howled at Anne H's performance, and then sobbed for most of the film {blush} It was so good :-D
I'd had my doubts about Russell Crowe but he did rather well, and even his singing was good. He's never going to be Pavarotti lol but he held his own and didn't need to be dubbed.
Hugh Jackman was brilliant, the difference in his appearance from when he was still 24601 to when he was Monsieur le Mayor was amazing, he must have starved himself to get the gaunt face.
The whole thing was wonderful :-D I can't think when I last enjoyed a film so much.

I am delighted to hear it! Did you expect to howl? I have never understood the appeal of tearjerkers, why people will actively choose to read or watch or hear something that they know will make them cry, but perhaps I'm missing something.
I've read a review that said the students were so good because they were cast for their singing, not for being slebs. You're not alone in wondering what Russell Crowe was doing there. I'm glad he justified his inclusion!
Here's Jackman talking about making himself unrecognisable for the role, and karaoke.

So glad Rowena enjoyed Les Mis, it is a tremendous movie.
Nice video Lesley it is a amazing film, and deserves all the awards it is winning.
Was just thinking Lesley how good it is to have on line friends like you after the sad news i heard on Friday of a guy 8 years younger then me found dead in his flat here, reminded me of the day you tracked me down in hospital, the poor chap was laying there for 10 days before he was found.
This shows me what a useful tool the internet is and to have good friends like you Lesley are essential.
Last word on LEs mis movie i tell people take a box of family sized tissues as will be needed. Friend from facebook went thursday with her biker boyfriend and a pocket sized tissue back both have admitted was not enough tissues, seemingly he was so embarassed to have blubbed like a baby at a film.

oops forgot to address your point on the students, each and everyone of them has done the stage show in the past so knew what was required of them Eddie Redmayne actually played Marius on the stage,One thing that pleased me was that the worlds worst marius performer was not in the movie. That being Nick Jonas

We hear stories like that all the time, but I imagine they hit home more when it's near you or younger than you. (And yes, it has happened to someone I met when I was in my teens.)
I didn't know that all the students had had solo parts. Who would have cast a young pop singer as Marius? Here is Nick Jonas with Samantha Barks, singing A Little Fall Of Rain

and A Heart Full of Love

Not great, is he? Isn't the part just a bit too big for him? |

To me Lesley was a case of a emotionless manniquin, he did play Gavroche when younger and was passible in that role

Stage show Gavroche only sang little people, so Jonas could not massacre the Classics he did in the vidoes posted by you.
I understand from somone sat at the 25th comcert his dad was pleading with folk around him to give him a chance, it seems people were criticising him even before the show had started.

A few weeks ago I kept a friend company to an appointment in a hospital about thirty miles away. She declined my offer of company last week, because they might have kept her in overnight. She texted me as she was on her way at 7am. She texted from home later. Her surgery was cancelled because the patient on front of her had complications. They've told her to come back in a week.
My Alexander teacher cancelled because she came off her bike in the snow and ice, and broke her wrist. Alexander lessons are impossible with one hand. So is washing up.
A friend's sister died yesterday. She'd had all sorts of things wrong with her but it was still a shock.
I've decided not to go to the concert in London tomorrow. It's a good programme but sprog tells me that it's going to snow more and get colder, and the pavements are icy.
I'm not so much worried about my ability to cope - I know I can. I'm more concerned with the railway's ability to cope with snow and ice and freezing fog - I rather suspect that it can't. I don't want to get stuck half way home because we have the wrong kind of fog on the line.
He's playing the same major piece with a different orchestra in April. I'll save myself for that. |
