And better not to use a car at the moment outside London either- it's been fine here all week on all the main roads but don't know what it's like further out, I wrote three quizzes in three days instead and spent today shopping locally and playing daily challenges like they were going out of fashion. And so often I get something interesting they use on a TV quiz within a few days which always helps as well.
Shame about all the disasters around you but everything seems to come in bunches, but the good news is it's not happening to you, it sounds uncaring but as Clare Rayner said when asked how she copes dealing with so many people's problems, she replied we all know people have them already, at least she's doing something to help, and I know you do the same for everyone you know so best you're in one piece, especially as you've had your share and theirs of that sort of thing already.

Good advice from the kid. Snow and ice away from home, is a pain...Or could be! ;)

It would be nice to have the option! Or, another way of looking at it, I don't have the responsibility of running a car, and doing things like being the only person near me who reverses into the drive, or the only person between here and Sainsco or Tesbury who's bothered to get all the snow off her car.
I miss the freedom and spontaneity, but I don't miss being surrounded by impatient idiots in mobile igloos. I'd rather spend a few minutes warming the car up so it thaws, ideally without locking the keys inside.
I think the current collection of mishaps is more about a miserable January than anything else. Thank you, I have had enough for now. I was a little taken aback by our mutual FB friend saying his life was worse than anyone else's, but I backed out before it turned into a competition. I don't know anything about his life and wasn't ready to ask. "My cross is harder to bear" is not a competition I want to win!
Jonathan said the pavements were icy. If London pavements are icy, it is bad, and I am happier to rely on his appraisal than on the official weather forecasts. He told me he likes it when I come to concerts, but I'd be forgiven this time: don't stress. I have all this in writing! |

| Jo? On Tuesday at about five o'clock, I copied and pasted a friend's mawkish little piece on my FB page, and he posted hoping that the crosses the rest of us had to carry through life were lighter than his. Easy to miss these things if you make a point of avoiding mawk! |

| I've sent you a link on FB. Yes, I think he was your friend first, then mine. Not quite sure how that happened! |

Did you find him, David?

The friend whose surgery was cancelled a week ago went back and had it a week later. It has been successful. She was weeping with relief, and at what might have been if she hadn't had it.
My Alexander teacher had her broken wrist set and plastered. She went back a week later, and they said the joint had moved significantly, so now they’ve pinned it - and re-plastered it. She has friends offering to get her shopping, and help generally. I have offered to wash up or chop veggies for her, anything I can do while I have the use of both hands. She says she has too much morphine in her system right now to care about food, except to take painkillers with, and that washing up is a fairly low priority.
The friend whose sister died on Monday is still with the rest of the family, and is staying for the funeral on Wednesday.

My niece is having Yet Another corrective operation on Tuesday. She is beginning to lose count of how many she’s had. This will be the one that puts her right and gives her her life back. “That’s what you said abut all the others,” she said to her her surgeon. Please let him be right this time. |

Niece is leaving at 6am to get to the hospital at 7am. Rather her than me.
Drivemecrazy has just died. She was only 29. Simply unfair. |

Do you remember her, Gary? She was gentle and friendly, and she wrote poems. When we had real blogs, she made one blog post and got about two thousand comments.
My niece was prepped at 8am and first on the list. She knows her anaesthetist from three previous ops. By 6pm, she was back on the ward. I imagine her name is on her bed. |

I missed your reply last week, Jo was a friend of half the members here already (although I don't think he's a member) so adds each new one as he goes along. I know he's ex-army but will check out his other issues. I'll try and find out how he knew us all as maybe he's more familiar than we realise.

That's an interesting thought, if Jo from FB is stalking FT people! I haven't found anything about his manner familiar, but that doesn't mean anything. I wonder what his angle is?
That was such a treat, seeing a bit of Real Blog! I did enjoy writing them. It's not the same now - I don't think anyone really likes the replacement. The best you can say about this board is that it's better than nothing.
It would be wonderful if you could resuscitate Jolie's Real Blog - even without the hundreds of comments. I think it was about 2,000 and I'm sure it was a record. |

I've found it - Jolie's Real Blog that you posted! And something rather exciting. On the LHS of her page is a list of friends. Click one and it will take you to their blog, and their friends list will take you to more... I only looked at a couple - Bassman and AnneBonney - but there may be some there that the "wayback" site missed.
I shall go back and investigate. I may be some time. |

I couldn't believe how many people wrote them back then, loads of staff as well, and more a case of which regular didn't have one rather than the handful who do now. I found many indexes and click 'all entries' for a full page, maybe half which open. I've got at least three pages of my own so far but was rather more prolific than most, as now.

Those Real Blogs really were the heart of the site. They're what created the sense of community, not the competition, and the Harry Potter and Justin Bieber threads, and the endless number-crunching. My old FT friend was right when he said the heart had been torn out of FT when the Real Blogs went.
Most of my online chat is now on email and on Facebook. If I'd just found FT now, I wouldn't have stayed. |
