Lesley, I just clicked on the link you provided for Cym's blog. Looks like I was the last post there are March 4th.
As you said, she poured her heart out and I was really taken by what she wrote.

That's a shame, people do slip away sometimes for reasons we don't always know, and some actually come back quietly, sometimes with different names.
I considered stopping my own blog once as people rarely read it, it was their fault as they originally linked interests and removed them for over a year, and everything stopped. But I had a counter on it, and even though I hardly get any comments a year compared to one or two a go originally I see maybe 10 people a day read them so carry on. If we knew the views here it would stop that happening so much, and I do come across people who said they heard something on my blog here so it does get read.

I read all the blogs, every day, but I don't post often. I just have nothing interesting to contribute, so...
I think Cym may have been disgusted because I spelled 'truly' wrong. ;) I miss her blog, too.

Could be, David, and we know she's busy, with church and family and the rest. Thing is, she's always been busy, but she always used to put in an appearance here.
"I just have nothing interesting to contribute..."
We'll be the judge of that, VM! We're not all Oscar Wilde or Stephen Fry - thank goodness. Most of the time, any acknowledgement is welcome, just so we know we're not talking to ourselves. Like leaving a stone, remember?
Took my hurty red little toe to A&E this evening. Notice at reception said waiting times were in excess of four hours. I was in and out, clutching a packet of strong antibiotics, in an hour and a half. Impressed. |

In a recent post in her blog, Lesley wrote in a most interesting way, "Took my hurty red little toe to A&E this evening." I can imagine you are in some pain with this, but I love the way you wrote about it.
I take it A&E means something like an Emergency Room?

Hour and a half? How's that for service :)
Hope you feel better.

Oh! I hadn't seen Cym's post - I'm so sad for her. she's always so matter of fact and stoic when writing and I'm sorry she's disappeared.
But yes Lesley, I can also agree.
I like to read blogs well but miss things because of the time warp but I'm also guilty of reading and not necessarily commenting.

How did you hurt your toe, Lesley?
Nice not to be kept waiting.
Advisory 'hours' maybe - so people would sit and not grizzle - or leave in disgust and progress the queue for those prepared to be patient?

Glad you didn't suffer too much with your toe. Is all this still on the "national health"?
Poor Cym, such a tragedy and not many seemed to care. I didn't read it either.
Feel bad now.

The problem is, as I see it is that this is a site for Fun Trivia, right?
So......whilst a few people post and/or read Blogs because they are interested, the majority do not. I freely admit, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't - depends on mood. Most though are neither interested nor concerned, which, let's face is, is not unreasonable as the site is about trivia quizz3es and no designed as an agony column.
Bob.........A&E "Accident & Emergency".

Ray, thanks for that explanation - and I have to agree with you on that point you made. There have been times that all I want is to play some trivia and shut out the rest of the world, then retire back to whatever hole I came from.
Then there are those times I want (and sometimes need) the exact opposite.
I'm sure some of my friends have been amazed at those times when I want to talk out my frustration/pain rathr than keep it inside.

Thank you, Bob! I think it would be hurting more if I hadn’t gone for help. It’s when the side of your foot is the same bright red as your little toe that you know you’ve got to do something. Yes, we used to call them Caualty, but someone, with the infinite wisdom that’s beyond us mere mortals, decided that “Accident and Emergency” made more sense. I thought Casualty made perfect sense, wasn’t tautology and had fewer letters, but what do I know?

Jazmee, I thought it would have been good service for walking mildly wounded, even without the four-hour scare sign. And it was nice to walk (OK, hobble) into reception, for a change, not be wheeled into resus. Feeling better already, ta. :)

MH, I know a lot of people can’t have read it, but a few rushed to write something when they did. And I think one person writing probably represents forty-nine who read and move on, and a thousand who didn’t see it. But isn’t it nice when someone writes back to you? She must have felt very alone at such a low point.
No idea what I did to my poor toe. Just woke up ouch. Waited to see if it would get less ouch, but it didn’t, it just got more red, and the redness spread, which is a definite sign to get it looked at. A friend woke up one morning - by herself! - with a massive bruise on her thigh. Her GP refused to believe that she hadn’t been “abused” by a man, wouldn’t listen to her, just kept banging on about domestic abuse. Not a very helpful attitude. I can’t imagine anyone making that assumption about a little toe.
The scare notice probably didn’t make much difference. People were too busy moaning and groaning (in pain), retching and scratching, to have the energy to grumble. People in most distress got seen the fastest. Two people next to me were talking and grumbling non-stop though. I opened facebook on my shiny new phone, and the first thing I saw was a picture of a newly-disgraced politician who needs no identification (clue: speeding points and a dumped angry wife), photoshopped between a striped shirt and a height chart. I showed it to them and they burst out laughing. Much nicer than non-stop grousing!

Thanks, Chris, it was all on the NHS. I just had to fork out a couple of mini-cab fares. Ambulance wouldn’t have cost anything either, but I was happy enough not to need one. Sorry if you’re feeling bad. That wasn’t the idea, honest! xxx

Ray, did you know that the site was born as a university scripting project, and was just forums for quite a while before the quizzes started appearing? For me, the quizzes were bait, but I stayed for the people and the words. Nobody is forcing you to join in the human side. I see the blogs as mostly entertaining, but nobody can be entertaining all the time. Life gets in the way of that. If all you see, when you read the boards, is a large agony column, it might be better for your peace of mind if you simply stopped reading them. |

J, looks like I was typing for ages, because your post wasn't there when I started!
Don't most people want to talk through things that upset them?
Haircut now. Back in a bit. |

Lesley, you mentioned you were going to have your hair done. Ironically, I had mine done yesterday. Been going to a local barber for over 10 years now and he does a fine job.
Talk with you soon.

| Mine's local too. Very pleased with today's. Had it done by someone much younger than my normal one, and it shows. |

Glad you got yours done. Haven't had mine done in ages :( My hair's all over the place, and far too long. Shame I have to wait a bit longer before I can finally tame those dreadful locks (note: I normally like my hair, but lately it's become all ratty and unruly).

I had mine cut five weeks ago, by the woman who's been doing it for about ten years, and normally very well. She had an off-day and I've spent five weeks looking like a tramp. This time, I made a last-minute booking, and she was fully booked, so I said yes to someone else and am very pleased I did. Worked out well.
Tomorrow I'm going to see the sprog and his girlfriend in a concert, staying over, and spending Thursday with him. In the evening, we'll be eating (probably out) with his girlfriend and then I'll come home. I'm happy that I won't be going out looking like a bag lady. :) |
