Postie, that must have been infuriating. Did that put you off getting anything else from the same shop, or the same manufacturers?
This has put me off Russell Hobbs. One faulty item is bad luck, and not the end of the world (unless you electrocute yourself), but a derisive disregard for communication with the outside world is not a great sales point.
"We are experiencing an unusually high volume of calls." Could mean perhaps we shouldn't have sacked quite so many people and replaced them with an answering machine. Or perhaps it was genuinely unforeseen because they've had a run on leaky kettles.
Nearly forgot - the website where I found the phone numbers also offers a link to their facebook page. Click it, and you get Remington. Do I prefer an unshaven David Beckham, or an unshaven George Clooney? Neither. I just want a kettle that works quickly and safely thank you please. Don't know what Remington has to do with Russell Hobbs either. Ah: got it. They're both Spectrum Brands. (None the wiser.)
I wouldn't expect a normal supermarket to collect a faulty item, so I was pleasantly surprised that Sainsburys offered a bit of help.
Ages ago, I bought a Remoska, which is a glorified cooking pot with the element in the lid. I used it happily for a few years, till one day it didn't get warm. I phoned Lakeland to ask if they could recommend somewhere to get it repaired. "No, there is a lifetime guarantee on everything we sell. We'll send you a replacement by courier."
How shall I pack the existing one and post it back to you? "You don't. The courier will pick up the old one." It was only two or three days before I got the new one. |

My grandpa used to check all the new guitars which arrived in the shop or got us to do it, and had to test every single point before they went on display. Agreed they aren't in sealed boxes, but they could design them to allow it somehow. My kettle apparently got water on the element once, it shot up like a rocket with a huge bang and that was it. Considering they are a high water zone you'd think they'd find a way to stop that getting in, I'm amazed that was the only time.

Had toe checked today. It's nearly mended and hasn't dropped off.
Went back to the shop that gave me vouchers after I complained (publicly) about an obnoxious saleswoman. Stumbled upon the perfect salesman, and bought a couple of garments. Went on their website and left a compliment for him. Much more enjoyable than complaining.
Pleased to have offloaded the vouchers. Means I don't have to go there again if I don't want to.
Made a couple of fruit cakes. One for the cardiac exercise class tomorrow, and one for... luck.
Meeting another flaky friend after the class, for another celebratory meal. Will take some cake with me. |

I pleased you spent vouchers and as you say can avoid the shop if you want too. You seem to be more busier this year then last , which is very good to see.
Much the same with me concerned for my mum, Was presented yesterday by a nice lady and her hubby a fruit loaf she makes great ones nice with a little spread and slice of xtra strong cheddar.
Hope all goes well, is good that your toe is healing

Me too. I've browsed the shop and the website a few times without seeing anything I wanted and, of course, the longer I keep the vouchers, the less they're worth.
Sorry to hear that you're worried about your mum. Why not keep us up to date on your blog?
Thanks, so am I! :) |

Took cake and fruit to the cardiac exercise class today, then another flaky friend picked me up and took me home for a late celebratory meal. We spent the rest of the evening eating and drinking and solving one or two of the world's problems. She bought me a top which is stunningly flattering, but I wouldn't have looked at twice if I'd walked past it in the shop. There's nothing like an eye for style, and I've lost mine. If I ever had one.
I mentioned the rubbish kettle, and she knew it leaked, without being told. She said it had been a fault for the last two years, and that's why it's half price everywhere.
I rang for a minicab to take me home. The driver knocked gently on the door, but we didn't hear him, so the office rang me to tell me he was outside. He said he didn't want to knock too hard, or ring the bell, in case there were children in the house. How often do you find a driver who gives a hoot about anyone except himself? Impressed. |

Unique. I rang the company when I got home, to praise the driver for unheard-of thoughtfulness.
Thank you, you are too kind.
Washed clothes and mac today. Last night's friend needs to keep warm but hasn't got much money, so she's burning logs at a fraction of the cost of central heating. It's very effective, but I got home kippered.
Walked to dentist today, then Marks and Sparks and a couple of other shops = about two miles. Who needs an hour a week of circuit training? |

I thank good cabbies with a tip... think I've only done that once or twice so that shows how few and far between a good one is.

Have a great holiday weekend Lesley. So pleased to hear about your thoughtful cabbie. We don't have them here either. It's nice to be able to send words of praise isn't it? So much better for the soul than complaints, for both sides.
You are getting out and about a lot these days,an excellent sign of good health.
Really pleasing to hear this.

Thank you! Yes, it's so good to be able to plan things, and scamper about on foot and wheels and rails, without being nervous about how I might cope on long journeys.
I've caught up on family. Sprog was there most of the time. (He was given a presentation to do, with virtually no notice, and had to nip back to college on Thursday to present it.) There were only eleven people sleeping in the house and only 13 round the table. Never had such a quiet celebration. Still exhausted, though. Can't think why.
Went out a few times in bro's car but actually only went out once on foot - when sprog asked me if I fancied a wander round the shops. So we wandered off in search of Tyrwhitt shirts and Church's shoes. Endless fun.
Got home a little after midnight and now hope to catch up on laundry and sleep. :) |

I did, thanks, Bev. Eight days is long enough to notice but not long enough to come to blows. It helped that the youngest person was eight.
He didn't actually find anything. How sad is that? I did, and I only went along for the ride. (tee hee *snigger*) He was fully equipped with his bank card, and I don't think he was hoping I'd pay. I have suggested taking him for a shopping trip for his birthday, so I'm sure I will then. Watch this space in my bank account. |

Just had an email from Ocado, my online shopping firm. Apparently it's a year since I placed my first order with them, and they're wishing me a happy anniversary. Isn't that nice. :)
"To celebrate, we're giving you up to £10 off your favourite chocolates."
Only "up to"? And isn't £10 a lot of chocolates?
"Minimum spend £40." What?!
So they think I'll spend £30 to get £40-worth of chocolate? Easter egg business must have been slow this year. I'd rather they hadn't bothered. Is there a more insensitive way of "thanking" me for being a customer for a year? |

| Afterthought: you need to spend £40 or more to get them to deliver, so perhaps they're reminding me about something I've known for a year. Hmmm. I've emailed them. Either way this is a mess. |
