I'd always thought that once you got a blog you had a blog in perpetuity, and could continue to add to it, whether you were a paying member or not. That may have been right at one time, but it isn't now.

I wrote an update yesterday, a few hours after I'd had an email to tell me that my paying membership had expired, and got an "access denied" message. I thought it was a shame to waste it. Off I go...

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

veronikkamarrz I'm glad the op is done, but the ventilator makes me nervous...

My thought too Veronikka but I know it's also used to help reduce heart strain after a protracted op. :)

It is normal, Veronica. She is probably off of it by now, awake, but uncomfortable.

veronikkamarrz Thank you. I'm (kind of) relieved. Was this an 'open heart' procedure?

Professer Releived op went well hope you will be back here soon Lesley miss you so much.

I think the first time she had the operation it was an open heart operation and this was probably the same. I didn't ask her about it. I read up on the procedures that she had and there is an operation they can do without cutting through the breastbone. Yhey use a smaller incision and go through the side part but I am not sure exactly where. Either way is bad and I hope Lesley is feeling better today.

Is there any new news from Jonathan about Lesley?

I wish I had something to report.

Lesley, I am thinking about you.

The very latest from J...
"My mum is still in intensive care and will stay there tonight. She is now on non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP) and they discontinued the sedatives at 6 this morning, though she has so far not been able to do more than
squeeze my hand or nod. They say it will take a while given the 8 hour operation and 20 hours or so of propofol and morphine."

Thank you Rowena. I hope they will give her something for the pain. I begged for something to make me sleep but they were very tight with that medicine and made me wait what seemed like forever for it. Another thing they make the patient do is cough to keep the lungs clear. They gave me a silky heart shaped pillow marked with a picture of my four veins that were repaired. I was to hold it tight against my chest as I coughed. I hope Lesley is feeling at least somewhat better today. It will take a few days for her to feel like doing very much.

veronikkamarrz Thank you HB and Row for the information. Jonathan's description sounds pretty normal. I'm sure they are prescribing for the pain, she's just off the post-op sedation...I certainly hope!

We'll all think good thoughts, and push them across the miles.

All the very best from the southern corner of West Australia to you, Lesley from Tezza, the small dog and the cows.
I have nursed quite a few people who have had similar surgery, and they all said the difference in quality of life after the op was amazing.
Look forward to seeing you back here soon.

I am waiting for today's update. I hope you are feeling "better" today.

Updated just now, from Jonathan...
" Turns out, not only did they replace her aortic valve and root, and repaired her tricuspid valve (by annuloplasty), but they did a single coronary bypass graft too! Three operations in one. She's still in intensive care but is now fairly alert and chatty, if not always making total sense! All her levels and her cardiac... function are fine and I think she could even be admitted to the ward tomorrow."

Me too honey, I can't begin to say how much I miss her "hanging around" - who else would spend 90 minutes on the phone to me "just because" :-D
