What and when was the first job you ever had? Did it influence you for the rest of your life?

Up to you how to answer this: You could describe your first job as a youngster, or you could tell about your first employment after you finished your formal education.

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

Other than babysitting from age 12 on when neighbors needed me, my first "real" job was with Alaska Airlines at their maintenance depot in Everett, WA, keeping track of hours used on the airplanes and their component parts so that they would have the regular maintenance performed at the proper time. I enjoyed it, but moved on to bigger and better things after a year or so in the big town of Seattle.

I was an assistant at local bakery, where I filled donuts with luscious fillings. The customers loved my overstuffed donuts, however the management did not! My first teen job at a bakery and my last.

beagle3 MY FIRST JOB WHEN I LEFT SCHOOL AT THE AGE OF 16, MANY YEARS AGO NOW, WAS AS A SALES ASSISTANT IN THE HABERDASHERY SECTION OF A LOCAL DEPARTMENT STORE. I ENJOYED THE JOB BUT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE MANAGEMENT. THE WAGES WERE OKAY (£28.50 FOR A 5 DAY WEEK). IT DIDN'T CHANGE MY LIFE, UNLIKE A JOB I HAD LATER IN MY WORKING LIFE.

My first job was baby-sitting for the next door neighbor's little girl. She was in first grade and didn't like to go to school. She cried all the way. I felt so bad for her. I found out years later that she had been named valedictorian. I was a nursing assistant at the age of 17 and then went on to nursing school.

My first job was packing bags in a supermarket. Back when customer service was big we used to pack customer's groceries for them as they came through the checkout.

Today I have to scan and pack my own groceries.

I see a lot of folks started with babysitting. I did that too...before Dairy Queen. The jobs before taxes :) I learned a valuable lesson babysitting. Motherhood was not going to be in my future. Hubby and I just celebrated 33 yrs...still childless :) God Bless those who are parents!
