Subject: Bus Ride Renewal Challenge

While the replacement of low-ranked quizzes is a continuing goal, preparation of extra quizzes to introduce variety for the tourists is also important now that the Bus Ride is well-established. Some tourists are on their third tour, and even nice quizzes get repetitive. The lowest-ranked quiz at the moment (in the cycle), aside from a few that have already had a volunteer for a new quiz, is Dominica, around 31,000, which is roughly in the top third of all quizzes.

The following list shows the quizzes in the current rotation in need of an additional quiz:

Angola, Belize, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Comoros, Dominican Republic, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Honduras, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgystan, Liberia, Marshall Islands, Moldova, Mozambique, Nauru, North Korea, Palau, Republic of Congo, Saint Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Swaziland, Syria, The Bahamas, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Zambia

If you create a new quiz on one of the preceding countries, get it placed online, and have it place within a reasonable ranking, it will be removed from the listing for this project and placed into the cycle for future rides.

As an added bonus, we have modified the ratings system to give all quizzes in our rotation a ratings bump.

Feel free to use this thread to also "claim" a country so that you don't duplicate someone else's effort and make sure to follow along with our later posts and updates to make sure that everything is in order. We look forward to seeing what you can come up with!

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

A chocolate-coated quiz for Eritrea has arrived!

How on earth did you manage to write and have your quiz accepted so quickly Row? I am truly amazed.
I genuflect and offer up sacrificial chocolate to you, oh great one. :)

The acceptance was nothing at all to do with me lol, that was the Editor. I guess the geography queue must have been empty or very nearly so, and I got lucky. The writing balances out the months the other one is taking me! It's still no further on :-S Just how it works out, sometimes a quiz "writes itself" almost, and Eritrea did turn out to be more interesting than I thought it would be, I learned all sorts of lovely facts :-D

Anyone interested in Kuwait? I must admit that my preliminary research has left me worried about being able to produce an interesting Bus Ride quiz, but somebody's got to do it! You just might be the one to see an interesting take that will work.

I think a historical one might be easier for Kuwait, it just doesn't have very much geography lol. Even with a hsitorical slant though, I don't think it's going to be exactly thrilling, but at least it would have a quiz... let me give it some thought and do a bit of research and I will decide if I think I can scrape up 10Qs. :-) (If anyone else does have a burning desire to write it meantime, go for it!)

The other Kuwait quiz is online again now, and fixed btw - I just played it. That makes it less "urgent" to have another I guess, although I might end up doing a historically slanted one anyway, there is some interesting-ish info out there. Will see if the urge grows on me lol. (I think I'm procrastinating the invertebrate geography one now!)

I've submitted two Macedonia quizzes: one in History and one in Geography. I will let clearer heads than mine decide which, if either, is worthy of a bus stop.

Your quizzes are always beautifully crafted works of trivia art Stu! It's not the quizzes being worthy of a bus stop, it's a bus stop being worthy of your quizzes!

LOL, Rowena. Be careful--I'm hard enough to live with as it is.

I think the geography one covers most of what folks are looking for on the Bus Ride. Hard to say, though--the BR is a bit of a different animal.

The bus ride is very different, I think that's why your Kenya one "suffered" on its day :-S It's a whole different audience of players, for 95% of them, all they want is to open the quiz, open Wiki, score 50% asap and if they get an "oo I didn't know that" moment in there somewhere, it's a bonus. The other 5% would play geography quizzes anyway because they actually like it lol, not because they want a badge...

And then there are those who are just there for the food :)

Stu, I have seen your history one online. I was about to post a link here for it, but will now wait and see which feels more Bus Ride-ish when I have played them both. What an abundance of riches! (If anyone disagrees with my choice, by the way, please say so and enter into discussion - we can try to make our opinion clear along the way. Those of us who play the quizzes and write the replacements should be getting a good idea of what works and what doesn't by now.)

I know I could go and scour the list etc, but you always have all the info to hand L-T - is there anywhere else that is urgent, or hasn't got a suitable quiz at all, that needs doing "desperately"? Or was Kuwait it? I have a quiz writing urge today lol, and I did half a music one then realised I can't submit it until the other one is online, but a geog one I could...

All countries with no online quiz have had someone say they would produce one. The highest on my priority list that is unclaimed is Colombia - while there is a quiz on the Bus Ride, it is not terribly good, and flagged as No Extra Info. The other two Colombia quizzes are also old, and require too much familiarity with local culture to be suitable for the Bus Ride (IMHO). I didn't enjoy any of them particularly! Colombia is therefore the current top of my personal hit list. Grab it if you want - I haven't done anything about a replacement quiz other than deciding it was the next in line!

I cannot always give such an exact answer, especially when I am at work, but chjecking out Colombia to see what other options were available for it was something I happened to do yesterday, so I remember!

But there are not a lot of Colombian invertebrates.

We now have two excellent quizzes from stuthehistoryguy on Macedonia available. I think this one is slightly more suited to the Bus Ride.

Guatemala has the lowest-ranked quiz currently in the Bus Ride (and 25 questions, which is pretty daunting). There are two other quizzes on Guatemala available if nobody writes a new one. One of them has some dodgy questions (current President as of 2002, for example, is out of date) and not much info. It is currently ranked below the current selection. This one is also old, but with a ranking of 56,791 is significantly higher than either of the others.
