While the replacement of low-ranked quizzes is a continuing goal, preparation of extra quizzes to introduce variety for the tourists is also important now that the Bus Ride is well-established. Some tourists are on their third tour, and even nice quizzes get repetitive. The lowest-ranked quiz at the moment (in the cycle), aside from a few that have already had a volunteer for a new quiz, is Dominica, around 31,000, which is roughly in the top third of all quizzes.

The following list shows the quizzes in the current rotation in need of an additional quiz:

Angola, Belize, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Comoros, Dominican Republic, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Honduras, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgystan, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Marshall Islands, Moldova, Mozambique, Nauru, North Korea, Palau, Republic of Congo, Saint Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Swaziland, Syria, The Bahamas, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Zambia

If you create a new quiz on one of the preceding countries, get it placed online, and have it place within a reasonable ranking, it will be removed from the listing for this project and placed into the cycle for future rides.

As an added bonus, we have modified the ratings system to give all quizzes in our rotation a ratings bump.

Feel free to use this thread to also "claim" a country so that you don't duplicate someone else's effort and make sure to follow along with our later posts and updates to make sure that everything is in order. We look forward to seeing what you can come up with!

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

It just occurred to me that I still have a Croatia quiz to write...I need to stop wasting my free time with silly games.

Terry's list includes some countries which have already had volunteers. But a volunteer doesn't have exclusive rights, and some may actually no longer be planning one, since they volunteered quite a while ago; other authorss are perfectly free to write a quiz of their own. Things are looking a lot less desperate than they did a while ago, so I simply repeat here my summary of who has volunteered.

San Marino - Snowman volunteered
Kuwait - this went offline, then back online with fixes, now offline again; we should wait to see if the original (active) author wants to do more work on it before racing to replace it
Solomon Islands - guitargoddess volunteered
Colombia - what's here isn't great
Malawi - other possibility is just about Lake Malawi, not really appropriate
Guatemala - there is one possible alternative online, but it is pretty old even though more highly-rated than the current choice
The Netherlands - Deunan volunteered
Suriname - existing alternatives include one True/False (Blecchh for bus ride) and one that is okay but pretty old
Jamaica - I haven't checked for alternatives yet, as I only had time to work as far down the list as Suriname

I will add the names of those who have just volunteered to my document that tries to keep track of all these! If you are interested in providing a quiz for a country that has already 'been claimed', you might want to discuss with the original volunteer just how committed they are. But, as has been said many times, it would be great to have multiple quizzes for every country, so there is no reason why you can't write a quiz for any of the countries Terry listed, or any other one that takes your fancy! It would be ideal if we could have 3 or 4 high-quality quizzes for each country, so that each tour could use different quizzes in a rotation that would take several years. And by then there would be new ones!

That's twice I've volunteered to do one and it has turned out GG was already doing that place. I give up! :-| I can't keep track of all these things, my head hurts all the time now and not just when I think ;-)

GG may not have actually done any work on it, and be happy to hand it over. The first tour is drawing to a close, and Solomon Islands REALLY needs a replacement, as does San Marino (which has two quizzes online at the moment - one is true/false, the other has a ranking around 87,000).

P.S. - Take two chocolates and call again in the morning.

Make that two bars of chocolate (bigguns!) and I might think about it lol.

Did you add me for Guatemala, LT?

I think Qatar needs a new quiz. The one of the bus ride today is dated, and the author hasn't been around in a while.

I was thinking the same thing. The current quiz is sitting around 16,000, which is certainly not bad, but perhaps you or I may improve upon this foundation. Wanna flip for it?

PDAZ, you are listed in big black letters following the red ones that remind me why each existing Guatemala quiz is not really satisfactory.

I think Qatar can be replaced if anybody wants to, but as a quiz with sunnies it's nowhere near as desperate as the ones with no quiz above 70,000! I haven't even bothered to check if there are available other options to check out. (I am doing that, when I get a spare minute, from the top of Terry's list at the link, which means starting with the lowest rated quizzes currently on the ride. Qatar isn't even in sight!

Well, LT, what PDAZ and I are saying is that a wrong quiz is a lot worse than a substandard one. The Qatar quiz, to cite one example, holds that Qatar opposes Iran's nuclear program; this has since changed, and that's not trivial. Also, sometimes ratings aren't the best indicator of a quiz's quality. Perhaps Qatar isn't as high on the list as San Marino, but it probably needs some work.

If you've submitted correction notices about the inaccuracies, it will probably be taken offline on the weekly ranking update, if not before. (I happily took their word for all the ones about which I didn't know the answer, so was blithely unaware of inaccuracy.) That, of course, is a different matter! Start writing, start writing now, and be ready to post your replacement offering when it is ready.

2 more questions to go on my Jamaica quiz. It's not about the geography of the place, it's tings to see and do. Would that be the world category and will it still count for the bus ride?

Rowena8482

It will count for the Bus Ride Leith, the idea is that players learn something, and it is an interesting quiz. It doesn't necessarily have to be strictly geography. And of course, as the Bus goes round again every 195 days, it gets harder to come up with a new geography quiz. Some countries just don't have a lot of geography (if that makes sense) so we're bound to move onto culture and so on, just to keep it fresh and interesting :-D
As to category, you'll have to wait and let the editors sort that one out! As long as it goes online it's all good though :-D

I think geography would work, leith. I have four geography quizzes that are entirely on sightseeing and the editors didn't have a problem with them. That said, this is a consideration for the eds--if one or two could lend their insight ;)

Thanks all for the insight. When I submit the quiz I might send the head ed in that category a note asking for their opinion. I think it would be World as there's culture as well as sights in it.

Geography specifically says that there should be no more than 3 or 4 questions relating to culture, or the quiz belongs in World. Culture questions in Geography quizzes lead to frustration in hourly and daily games, when the specific questions that get selected are clearly not about Geography! I prefer to try to make it completely Geography or completely culture, which goes to World. (It was a bit frustrating to write a whole bunch of quizzes about Caribbean countries without mentioning Cricket, but I exercised discipline and did it.) There is no problem with a world quiz for the tour; in fact, in many ways it could provide a more interesting experience for many players!

I forgot to say that sights fit into World fine! Just pose the question to emphasise the tourist interest in the sight rather than the geographer's or scientist's.
