While the replacement of low-ranked quizzes is a continuing goal, preparation of extra quizzes to introduce variety for the tourists is also important now that the Bus Ride is well-established. Some tourists are on their third tour, and even nice quizzes get repetitive. The lowest-ranked quiz at the moment (in the cycle), aside from a few that have already had a volunteer for a new quiz, is Dominica, around 31,000, which is roughly in the top third of all quizzes.

The following list shows the quizzes in the current rotation in need of an additional quiz:

Angola, Belize, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Comoros, Dominican Republic, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Honduras, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgystan, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Marshall Islands, Moldova, Mozambique, Nauru, North Korea, Palau, Republic of Congo, Saint Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Swaziland, Syria, The Bahamas, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Zambia

If you create a new quiz on one of the preceding countries, get it placed online, and have it place within a reasonable ranking, it will be removed from the listing for this project and placed into the cycle for future rides.

As an added bonus, we have modified the ratings system to give all quizzes in our rotation a ratings bump.

Feel free to use this thread to also "claim" a country so that you don't duplicate someone else's effort and make sure to follow along with our later posts and updates to make sure that everything is in order. We look forward to seeing what you can come up with!

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

It's great to see someone else writing these! I was getting a bit embarrassed by the number of my own quizzes I have had to suggest by default. Not that they're bad quizzes ;) but that variety is the spice of life, and even when I try to be creative and innovative, I am working withing the framework of my owen aproach to information and my writing skills. Thanks, KatyK :)

We are down to under 50 countries that do not have a quiz ranked in the top half of the site, and closer to 30 that have not had anyone volunteer to write a quiz. It would be nice to see some new quizzes that were based on history (stu, you know this means you) or World. I'd actually be really excited to see an accessible quiz in Sports - it would have to be very googleable to be popular on the Bus Ride, but there are some counties with a lot of internationally famous soccer/football players and/or cricket players. (Baseball is harder to imagine appealing to the international tourists, but perhaps a tour of the most famous ballparks could qualify. Of course, they seem to be disappearing.) People is another category that strikes me as having the potential to be used to create an interesting quiz, in a totally different vein from those we currently have.

Any of these ideas fire anyone's imagination?

I did offer to do Zambia a while back but have got nowhere with it (my honeymoon photos are on a computer that I can't access very often) so I might return that to the pile.

However, you have piqued my interest in doing a sporting history of Uruguay if that would fit the bill? I'm thinking about doing a People quiz too (I feel I ought to) but I don't want to commit myself to too much at this stage as my quiz-writing time is limited at the moment.

I have noted that Nicaragua quiz, and was waiting to see a ranking before deciding on whether to include it. (Since I can't see progress feedback on anyone else's quizzes, I need to wait for a ranking to know whether it is travelling well.) Meanwhile, it is listed for my Fringe selection this cycle. :)

My post at the top of this page referred to the number of Bus Ride quizzes not on the top half of the site's quizzes - it should have said top quarter. Only a very few are not in the top half at this point, so we have a current collection of quizzes that people seem to have been enjoying pretty well. But there's always room for improvement! A sporting history of Uruguay sounds exciting (as long as players seem to enjoy it).

I have relisted Zambia, which is now #2 on the needs replacement list.

I have written 'Lost in Italy', which is in world and similar to my 'Lost in Spain' which has fared really well in the rankings despite the tourist hordes visiting last week. The current Italy quiz is one of the highest ranked quizzes of all, though, so I'm only suggesting it for the sake of variety.

I've just discovered that the current Albania quiz happens to be an Editor's Choice, haha, so feel a bit silly suggesting mine! :$ But perhaps for variety, if the Bus Ride quizzes change each ride. :)

'Lost in Italy' is one of my two choices for the Fringe tour when we hit Italy. Some of these alternative quizzes are really great, and eventually I hope to provide Terry with a list of two quizzes for each country, so that they can be rotated even if the current one is good. Of course, that means someone is going to have to chip in and produce reserves for all of my quizzes! There are quite a few countries that only have a single viable quiz at the moment.

For the moment, I am working on the principle of popularity as I scour the site and look for quizzes to suggest to Terry when he is ready to do a rotation - a quiz was written a while ago that eventually had a ranking in the zone where we are actively trying to replace quizzes, so I didn't think it made sense to replace one of the highest-ranked ones. But when we run out of weaker quizzes, it will certainly be a great idea to have good quizzes coming and going at intervals.

If you send a note to an editor in the World category, and outline what you want to do, they can advise you Malik :-) (you can find out who they are on a World page if you go to the category. They're listed just above the list of quizzes)
