Not Livingstone either ... perhaps another clue is needed?

Looking again at your subject, you did not actually state male or female, or a person, so how about Greyfriars Bobby?

Brilliant Mommakat ... you're spot on:
"John Gray died in 1858 and was buried in Greyfriars churchyard in Edinburgh. Not much is known about the man himself but after his death his grave was made famous by the devotion and loyalty of his dog, a Skye Terrier, known as Greyfriar's Bobby. For 14 years this loyal dog lay on his master's grave, only leaving it at 1pm to eat, until his death in 1872. It is said the people of Edinburgh would gather to watch him as his fame spread. The story has proved an inspiration for generations since and a statue stands at the entrance of the graveyard to this day, commemorating Bobby and his unprecedented display of devotion".
Now who the heck are you?

Thank you. I must confess that the "graveyard" gave it to me. It is a story that always tugs at my heartstrings.
My subject is a deceased English male born in the latter half of the 19th century. Should not present too many problems.
