No restaurant or TV business involved here. You could buy yourself a lunch here, though food service was not the main aspect of my company. I incorporated before WWI began.

No hotels. Jake's in the right department so to speak. I died only 5 years after the name currently used by my company went into effect.

Not Wal-Mart, this store under it's current name opened in the same year though. The original store I founded opened 50 years previous to that.

Not Macy. One letter of my name is used the current name of the company. This has locations only in the U.S & territories so many of those non-americans may be not as aware of it as those in the USA.

You got Jake. S.S. Krege mart became Kmart still the 3rd largest retailer in the US I believe. He was just 7 months short of 100 yrs. old when he died.
I wanted someone to get it before I called it a night, back to work tomorrow.
So, who the heck are you?

Well, I didn't realise Canada was a U.S. Territory LOL! (we used to have Kresge stores when I was a kid (my grandma sometimes took for lunch there - which was quite a big deal in those days lol) and we had K-Marts until about 10 years ago when they all closed - the franchise up here having been purchased previously by the Hudson Bay Company).
Anyhoo, next up is a dead French explorer.

sorry, not Champlain, although I can certainly understand why you chose him : ) I deliberately picked someone who didn't have much to do with Canada (didn't want to show too much favouritism - giggles).
