I looked up Mal Meninga. He's a Queenslander, Pacific Islander descent. His ancestors were some of those "blackbirded" to come and work in the sugar plantations up there. Some were kidnapped, some volunteered to come, some were tricked.
Mal was a policeman before he became a professional footballer. Started to run for a seat in Federal Parliament on his retirement, and then, for no reason, in the middle of a speech, he suddenly resigned. He said he was "buggered".
He's been awarded the Order of Australia since then. He's currently the Queensland coach. Nice looking man really. He had to issue a public apology for calling the NSW rugby league players "rats and filth". Should have been awarded another Order of Australia for that remark :)

I have never been sports minded really. Never could see the sense in kicking the hell out of a piece of blown up leather round an oversized cow paddock, or bashing the hell out of a small size one with a club and then running around a circle to end up where you started. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. LOL

You zink only zee men like zee sport, Daver? I like it. Very much in fact. I have six brothers. Just not the footy, wrestling or boxing. They seldom show any other sport here on television but footy. It's not fair to all the other sportspeople who work so hard. But boxing and wrestling, ugh, no. So brutal.
So, in an endeavour to be able to view different sport, I paid for the extra sports channels to be put on. There's about 12 of them. The other night, every single one was showing footy. And one night, they were showing a game that was played in 1966!
Only one normally shows the other sports such as track and field, cycling, winter and so on, but it was showing footy too. It's gone over to the dark side.
