That's it Jakeroo! George Bass signed up as a Ships' surgeon and sailed for Australia aboard the HMS Reliance in the company of Matthew Flinders. Once here he began exploring and proved that Tasmania (at that time called van Diemen's land ) was an island. His efforts were rewarded by the straits between Tasmania and the mainland being named Bass Strait After a time he sailed from Sydney in 1803 and what happened to him has never been discovered - he simply disappeared.

No not Queen Victoria who died in the early 20th century. This lady would have been a very young child at that time, as I said before she was born in the "late" 19th century and died in the 20th century.
Also this lady was not royalty.
