David Suzuki is a fair enough guess, depending on your point of view lol, but I'm not him.
I'm not a sportscaster (so I'm not that Ron MacLean) but I am associated with sports in a very specific way.
I suppose I should have explained better that by "good works", I meant of the "humanitarian" sort.

My random Canadian name generator comes up with: Harry Black?

Oh my, very good guess, but as far as I know, Mr. Black wasn't involved in sports.
I, too, have a national Canadian medal of honour (a "CC" rather than an "OC") as well as one from my home province of British Columbia.

Another excellent guess. I share several things in common with Nash (honours, basketball and other sports, being an Olympic torchbearer, good will efforts etc). However, I'm almost 20 years older than him and I was born in British Columbia, while Nash was born in South Africa.
The Royal Canadian Mint recently released a coin commemorating something I was internationally famous for a quarter of a century ago (and no, that wasn't a pun lol).

What a guy! Thanks Jakeroo for the great choice. It was an education to read about all the Canadian humanitarians. I go on this site to show off - I really don't expect to get inspired and humbled by amazing people.
Anyhow.
Who the heck am I?
Born in the 1940s, I was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
My family has roots in the north of England.
I am not Canadian.
