Since my friend moved to Florida in 2002 I've taken an interest in the hurricanes as he's stuck right in the middle of many of them. There have been a few years when they happened every few weeks and others with barely any, and thought they were expecting a busy season this year but only one so far. Are they fairly predictable cycles or not really possible to know from year to year?

beachbumb101 I've lived in Florida (South FL) for most of my life. The hurricane cycle is not predictable from year to year. The news tries to hipe it up and make it sound really horible when these hurrricanes turn out to be nothing to worry about. What part of FL did youur friend move to?

He's in Boca Raton and had at least one direct hit but no resulting damage. They even considered moving north at one time to avoid them but didn't like the look of it when they went to see. I'm not surprised what you said, I've been to Miami once and although in one of the main target areas you don't see any damage or evidence of rebuilding around. The news does love to get good stories regardless of the actual accuracy as long as people look at it.

beachbumb101 Sat, that's cool your friend lives in Boca. I attend college at FAU(Florida Atlantic University) off of Glades rd.

I've never managed to get him on any of my sites or I'd try and introduce you. There's someone here from Miami who stays at his parents in Boca sometimes at weekends when they're away but hasn't posted anything for ages.

I think that it all depends on the right conditions & wether or not the currents move the storm our way.

Whether it's media hype or not, I wouldn't want to live anywhere there was a chance that my roof might get blown off or the walls of my house collapse. Where I live the worst we have to put up with is the very occasional blizzard and we haven't even had any of those for thirteen years!

I would rather live in Florida with its hurricane risks, than in the midwest US where there are tornadoes with no warning, or California with its earthquakes. At least you can get out of the way of a hurricane and you always have homeowners insurance!
