Update from Beth's daughter, half an hour ago:
"My mother has been just been moved to the after surgery floor. I had a hard time getting information out of anyone at the hospital, but as far as I know everything went fine. Will post more when I know more."

Another update from a friend, ten minutes ago:

HI ALL!! I just saw Beth at the hospital (it's only a few minutes form the campus I teach at) Promised her that I would post an update for all of you! She looks "ok", is hooked to a IV with a pain meds button and oxygen and pressure cuff thingys on her legs to help with blood circulation. She says she feels like a "truck ran into her back!". Nurse is trying to get ahold of Dr to see if they can switch up her meds to make her more comfortable. Says she doesnt see HOW she will be up and walking tomorrow but I told her she will be amazed!! Assured her sometimes you have to feel worse to feel better :)

I am so glad that she is doing ok. I just hope those pressure cuffs on her legs do not bother her later. When I was in the hospital about 3 weeks ago they put those things on me and I have never felt such pain trying to walk afterwards.

Update on day two: Surgery yesterday took four hours. Today was physical therapy. Possibly coming home as early as Thursday, but more likely Friday or Saturday.

She said it hurt but she did it anyway.

My mother is doing okay. She has been in physical therapy all day, and is getting some very nice pain drugs. Probably coming home Saturday.
