Well, ended up in the ER last night - for FIVE hours...because they forgot about me. Twice. Small-torn ER, not very busy. In all the various times I've been there, I've never experienced anything like that before. Anyhow...was having pain from the base of my spine to the base of my skull. It sounds like a cliche, but it felt like my back was on fire. So, I'm back on the hated pain meds again for about a week. They didn't run any tests because I've already got MRIs scheduled for next week, on my spine and neck. But this new pain is either due to pulled muscles from when I was sick last week - or else it's part of an MS flare-up (which is more likely because my legs are being crankier than usual too). Next week, after he has the new MRIs for a baseline, the neuro is finally going to put me on some sort of MS drug, to try and hold back further lesions and flare-ups. The med he's considering is a brand-new (just approved) one that comes in pill form, rather than self-injections - so I'm all for that!

AND...NaNoWriMo 2012 is ON! I've been writing my own (serialized) version of where I think my favorite show could've gone, if given a 4th season, and my NaNoWriMo novel will be a 3-episode arc of the Season Four. Here's the prologue:
The Bite of the Cobra - Season 4, Episodes 6, 7 and 8
Prologue
Those Washington bureaucrats believed he was dead...and convincing them had been far too easy! A burned-out jeep with three hired flunkies inside was all it took. Well, that and the tattered wallet he'd ordered planted underneath following the explosion...with his ID inside. Such a shame those insignificant flunkies didn't realize what they'd truly been hired for! They'd thought they were part of a second string attack on Edwards Air Force Base, after his first round of attackers had been either rounded up or killed. They had no idea they'd really been hired...to die.
It didn't really matter to the man who called himself Nemesis that - for now - he'd be hearing about the results of his plan from his new base in Mexico. The bureaucrats believed there was no longer a reason for them to remain on the West Coast and they'd soon be flying home...then the party would truly begin! The man and the woman whose bodies contained the power packs he needed to complete his finest creation were completely unaware that they were still being sought. He'd been told that morning that their names were Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers but that was of no interest to him. He imagined that they were feeling mighty cozy and secure right now, with no further need for a squadron of Security surrounding them; they'd be easily overcome and grabbed...and brought to him in Mexico. His final plans for them would make the completion of his invention all the more sweet.
Nemesis couldn't wait to hear the woman scream!

Another MRI today - in five more hours - and nerves are already trying to get the better of me!
Have been writing up a storm, almost at NaNoWriMo pace. (And yes, finished NaNoWriMo...in 15 days!) Surpassed one MILLION words on fanfiction.net and now stand at over 1,100,00! And still writing.
In a full (MS) relapse at the moment, so writing helps take my mind off things. |

How was the MRI (apart from fun, as usual), and how are you?

Beth got home after nine hours in the ER, and more tests than she could remember. Still no other information, except she appealed for a new body.

I'm so sorry for the lack of updates. MRI showed no new brain lesions. That's the good news. The bad news is that there is 'far too much' scar tissue at the surgical site, encroaching upward over the next vertebrae. And the even-worse news, discovered after several trips to the ER (one of them in an ambulance) - another herniated disc. It appears that there is more surgery on the horizon. I have to see a neurosurgeon this time (rather than an ortho man).
For a couple of days, had trouble even sitting up for more than a few minutes without feeling like I was being sliced in two. It's a little better now, but still can't lift anything much heavier than my coffee mug.
AND...when it rains, it pours. A few months ago, my apartment building was taken over by Fannie Mae. The same day I had been to the ER via ambulance, was served with an eviction notice. I have to be out of here before 3/14 at 8am, when the sheriff will be coming to put us on the street.
Could not have possibly come at a worse time. I can't even pack for myself! Took an empty box off the stack and doubled over before I could even put a book or cd in it! Can't even stand at a shelf long enough to wrap any breakables.
My caseworkers assure me that they will have a place for me (and the boys) in time, and will bring a crew to pack me up and move me out. I just have to trust the and have faith. I guess faith is all I can have, at this point... |

So...I forgot to mention that the nine hours in the ER also had a few other interesting things happen. At one point, the told me that they believed a portion of my stomach had died. Yes - 'died'. I had originally gone in because I'd thought I was having my very first MS 'Hug'...but it wasn't that. Turned out, after 9 hours of being pumped full of morphine, after an EKG, chest x-ray, various other x-rays, two rounds of blood tests, another MRI and a few tests I won't mention...it's my ulcers again.
Doctor Bubba is keeping a very close (and cuddly) eye...and Nurse Rocky is keeping us all well-entertained. |

Oh boy, and you manage to stay so cheerful. You (and the cats) are really an example to all of us. I hope it all gets sorted out in both areas.

I remember an eviction notice but I thought it was all about a technicality over the lease, and that you could stay. I'm sorry that was wrong - and thank goodness for all your supporters.

Oh Beth. Just as well you have your sanity purries!
What a worry.
Best wishes that everything is dealt with 'again' quickly and with the least fuss and upset for you all.

GOOD news! Attorney assures me that what the holding company is doing is illegal - and they can get a stay for at least an extra 30 days (which was when they were hoping to move me anyhow). Glad there is a Plan B by my caseworkers (to move me quickly) if this falls through. But it sounds very promising. And attorney SO nice. Very calming. Either way, I am assured the boys will stay with me.
MEDICAL NEWS: Saw my GP today. Have been able to switch from the surgeon the ER doc insisted i see - to the one I wanted in the first place. His staff SO much nicer too. Receptionist said I sounded 'clearly miserable' and my consult with this surgeon will be on the 7th. (The best the 'other' surgeon could offer was the 11th, and that was an appt made 2 weeks ago, when I told *his* staff I could barely move. *That* receptionist's response at the time was 'This is a very busy practice, Ma'am!' So I have such a better feeling about the surgeon I have switched to!
Also have an appt with a GI doc (for recurrence of the ulcers) and with a pain clinic. There is much more hope tonight than there was just this morning! |

Hi, Bob!
And hi, everyone!
Well, initial consult with neurosurgeon is tomorrow. Things should move rather quickly after that, as I have a cd with my last 3 MRIs on it, so the testing is already complete. Not really nervous, as am very eager to get rid of this awful pain. Dreading the 40 minute car ride though, as just riding in a car across town to local clinic HURTS. Will be worth it though.
Have to share: a friend gifted me the biggest jar of Nutella I've ever seen! And then someone sent me a recipe for Nutella fudgesicles. I don't have ice pop molds...so made Nutella ice cream instead. Recipe called for milk, but me being me...I used heavy cream instead. Delicious!!
