Well, this won't be filled with profound insights and I'm not as good at humor as I'd like to be, but I miss my old blog - and the opportunity to chat with YOU! So....here I am. More to follow; just saying hi for now.

veronikkamarrz I'm very glad your new meds are working! I think this will bring a better day to day for you! Say 'Hi' to the boys!

Thank you, everybody, for the happy, encouraging words! The meds are working very well for the nighttime pain and help with some of the pain, tremors and stiffness in the daytime, too. Tomorrow, the dosage increases to two pills every 12 hours, then in five more days, it will be 2 pills every 8 hours. I'm looking forward to that, as (in the daytime) it seems to wear off in around 8 hours. The only issue (so far) that it hasn't helped with at all is the fatigue. But...one step at a time, right? :)

lesley153 Right!
It sounds like your steps so far have all been successful - a long-awaited diagnosis, and effective meds. Long may they continue to be.

Okay, I am much more stiff and sore than I'd expected to be tonight. This is not good. Was also tremoring a lot this morning before I took the meds (which did help). Almost time for the next dose, so I will hopefully feel better soon. I'm beginning to worry that this might be a flare-up. Not allowing myself to consider the possibility of a full-on relapse. Maybe a good night's rest and the increased dosage tomorrow will do the trick.

Got to stay positive!

It's the first day of NaNoWriMo! Is anyone else writing this year? I am gearing up with a cup of coffee and a CD of my 16 favorite songs that a dear friend made for me. Wasn't really feeling the NaNoWriMo spirit...until this morning. Now I can't wait to get started!

lesley153 I hope you slept well, and the meds are working now.

Slept 5 hours and then dozed for awhile longer - not too bad, for me. It takes my body a good hour after I get up to take stock of itself and decide how it is going to feel each day.(Except yesterday, when I was stumbling and shaking as soon as I got up.) Today looks like it should hopefully be a good one. Stiffening up a bit as I sit here, but that's what the meds I'm about to take are for.

The cats would very much appreciate if their Mama would stop singing. Right. Now. :)

lesley153 Sorry, but the last thing we care about is what the cats want. Try telling them to be quiet when they're out with their pals, sitting on a garden wall at midnight. See how much notice they take then.

You ignore them, and carry on Singing. Your. Socks. Off.

Word count: 1690 - and Chapter One is finished! Yay! (And the increased meds dosage seems to be doing the trick, for now.)

Second chapter finished, and word count is 3247. I am forcing myself to stop for the night, as it will be bedtime soon and I need to wind down a bit. It's just so exciting to be writing again, after months of letting myself go rusty!

This year's story excerpt:

Facing the Abyss

Jaime couldn't feel the grass between her toes...but she could still sense it. When she was a little girl, crunching the bright green blades underfoot had made her feel giddy and alive. Today, standing in this spot, the grass gave her a creepy, eerie sensation that shivered through her entire body.

She'd been in this exact spot hundreds of times in the past. Her father's grave was to her left and her mother's grave to her right. Jaime gripped the two traditional bouquets of yellow roses tightly in her left hand, unable to move as her mind whirled in a kaleidoscope of confusion. The ground beneath her was different than the patches of grass and earth that surrounded it. The soil had been recently disturbed, pressed firmly back into place and then sodded over as though nothing had ever happened there. Even the groove in the plot where a tombstone would go had been carefully filled in with barely a dent remaining.

Jaime laughed bitterly; they'd certainly done a good job. They'd made it look so 'normal' again, when she now knew it was anything but normal. How 'normal' can you feel (she wondered to herself) when you're standing on your own grave?

She isn't dead; she's bionic. But it is a rather dark story about government deception (with only the best of intentions, of course).

A little excerpt from mid-way through the same chapter:

Twenty-four hours turned to forty-eight...and seventy-two....and still the doctors saw no improvement in Jaime's condition. She was deeply comatose, with very little appreciable brain activity.

“Steve would want to be here,” Michael persisted, pleading his case solely to Oscar this time while Rudy was attending to their patient. “When Jaime does wake up, she'll be confused – frightened – she's going to need him.”

“Rudy says she may wake up a vegetable – or not wake up at all!” Oscar reminded him.

“That's worst-case scenario,” Michael argued. “We can't let ourselves allow the possibility -”

“We have to prepare for the possibility,” Oscar sighed. “Besides, Steve is out of the country; he left last night for an assignment in China.”

“But her funeral is in two days – and Jaime is alive!” Michael couldn't fathom how they'd planned to pull this off. “Don't you think it's a poor time to send her fiance clear across the globe?”

Oscar stood up from the chair and rose to his full height. “Are you questioning my judgment? Or Rudy's?”

lesley153 Now it's just confusing. :D

I am easily confused, though. Perhaps we need to be able to read the whole thing.
