There are kids in it (not the lead characters), but mabye not yet teenagers.

Okay I guess with answering those questions it will become clearer.
The main characters have been searching for a lost brother, who suddenly appears, which is the basic plot of the movie.
What I meant was that even though the story was written specifically for the movie, the characters were popular before already; originally a cartoon, then a TV series.
And the characters are human, well most of them.
No Sandra Bullock or Meg Ryan, sorry.
