Paul - I read The Remains of the Day before the movie was made.
Dave: Is it one of the Merchant Ivory movies, perhaps A Room With a View or Howard's End?

The book this film was based on was written prior to the 20th century, but it's not by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, nor is it Paradise Lost.

It's not a Merchant-Ivory movie. Hard to say if it's considered a "classic." Ir was made less than 50 years ago.
