would it have been a film that got a "G" rating or does the "dark" aspect take it to to a "PG" or "R" rating.

Eh, I'm going to throw out a wild guess and say it's "Mash".
Or "Kind Hearts and Coronets."

The ravioli (all 300+ of them) are in the freezer. The pasta dough was very uncooperative, that's why I didn't make it back last night to check on the thread lol. We had chili for supper, there's a big pot of it. You're all welcome to pop by and (please do) finish it off.
ANYHOO ...
- the movie was PG (which is probably appropriate)
- it's not even remotely a musical (so it's not Little Shop of Horrors or anyone doing the Time Warp).
- it's not M*A*S*H

It's also not Kind Hearts/Coronets, or the Loved One. Family Plot is a rather good guess, but it's more of a "thriller" than my movie.

My movie is newer than both of those.
Next hint: besides having a dark side, there's an oddball romantic relationship between the two main characters (who are very very different from one another).

You all arrived just in time to celebrate Salami getting yet another one right (yes it was Harold and Maude).
Drinks all 'round.

Woo! Drinks! Wait, alcohol? I'm 19, no alcohol, please. :-) Sparkling apple cider or soda? :-P
Ok, I am an American thriller.

It was likely a cold drive up here, so for you, Salami: a double hot chocolate mocha with whipped cream and toffee shavings.
Does your American thriller involve murder?

Ooh, thanks, jakeroo, but hold the whipped cream. blechy.
I am so glad I chose a movie I've actually seen, so I can answer the question. XD
Umm, there is one accidental death; but it is not suicidal or murderous. At least, not intentionally.
