Sorry, not Cloud Atlas. Earlier by 5 or so years.
The film is biographical, detailing achievements by a New Zealander.

Not River Queen.
Actor playing male lead isn't a New Zealander. He won an Oscar for an earlier film.

It's biographical and outdoor sports related! I don't think your suggestion qualifies.
To satisfy my curiosity - what world record was set in BGFM?

Sorry, not An Angel at My Table.
The male lead is Welsh.

Movie was filmed at the site where the world record was set.
The Welsh lead is particularly well known; he's played many different characters, including one with an unsavoury diet.

I felt for you TB1.
I'll go for an easy one. 1950s musical selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It's OK, I guess.

"Oklahoma"? Is it from a B'way show?

A little later than "Oklahoma!", and based on a novella without coming via a show.
