Daver, books are my ebay passion. The nearest bookshop is 120km from me, so ebay is my always open bookshop.

I like looking on Ebay, Dreaming mostly about a new boat or some old car. I have brought a several fishing lures and braided fishing line through Ebay also diecast cars and other misalliance items.

I won a sweet little victorian era gold ring on eBay. For about a week, I was having fun searching, bidding and watching items until I realized that I was spending more time than was healthy. Thank heaven my "week off" from reality has ended, so I can get back to business and think about a couple of items that I could SELL on eBay. Have an interesting collectors item that I have no idea what to list it for.

Today, for the princely sum of $17.23, I purchased a small bronze coin bearing the images of Marc Antony on the obverse and Cleopatra on the reverse. It looks good in the photos, but I'll have to scrutinize it in person when it arrives. Tons of counterfeit ancient coins on eBay. But if it's real, it's worth several hundred dollars.

The site is very addicting. I've gotten some 'treasures', but I've also been taken.

I've bought many items on ebay - including the super-comfy leather chair I'm sitting on! Generally,I've had excellent value for money with both new and old/used items, including 2 cars,40 or more paintings/watercolours,countless books and CD/DVDs,a fantastic antique leather Chesterfield sofa,2 new plasma TVs,etc.,etc.
Only had a problem with one item - a pair of 19C. porcelain salts that arrived damaged. But even damaged, they're worth 5 times what I paid! C'est La Vie!
If you are careful, take your time and ALWAYS check the seller's feedback (do you have that in the US? I'll have to check-out ebay USA!),you won't go far wrong. IMHO!

Yes, we have the feedback system. The UK and US sites are fairly similar.

I've been happy with everything I've purchased on Ebay. I make sure to carefully read the descriptions, and ask questions if pertinent information is missing. Most sellers would rather work with you if you're not satisfied than have you give them negative feedback. Happy E-baying!

Bought many things on ebay and have been ripped off 4 times. Saved $8000.00 just on the car purchased there, so figure it more than covers the few bad transactions. Recently ebay tightened up its regulations on sellers, so it's even more secure to shop.

Most of the time if you get "ripped off" and the seller refuses to give you a refund, you can file a complaint and you're protected by PayPal. But you have to file promptly. And there's always negative feedback!
Today I got a bracelet in the mail that I recently purchased. It's not only lovely, it contains over 70 grams of sterling silver - about $80 "melt value" at today's prices. I paid less than $45, including shipping.

Don't use eBay, but over here in NZ we've got a website that's equal to eBay. We in NZ know it as Trade Me, and I've got a serious addiction to buying coins off Trade Me. Mind you though, spending nearly $5000 on coins worth up to $25000, that's a bargain isin't it?

Decided to sell some things on eBay for a change. Actually received much more than I expected, even though I can't use my digital camera worth a darn; my photos are terrible. Actually felt guilty about taking so much for some the items, even though I was completely honest in my descriptions. I've sold a lot of things, mostly coins, and have never had anything returned, even though I give return privileges and offer to pay return postage. Guess it's true what they say: one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Daver, don't feel guilty about the prices you received. My belief is that in an auction situation, an item's value is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
My best eBay find has been a 1930's German Art-Deco chiming mantel clock in beautiful condition. $140 was my winning bid and I saved on postage as it was only a few suburbs away from where I lived and the seller was more than happy for me to pick it up.

I find the CD prices on music on ebay quite attractive. Usually, one can get music at a reasonable price.
Other items, that I would have to shop for out of town, can also be found on ebay.

Ebay is fun to use -- I've found many random things on there much cheaper than anywhere else I've seen.
Recently I've been trying to win some old currencies. Some successes, some failures, that's the way ebay goes...

Callie: You don't know what you're missing! I've made 25 purchases from Ebay so far, and haven't been disappointed with a one of them. This site made it possible to give my friends some awesome gifts that they're still wondering how I was able to afford. Even if you have no intention of bidding on an item, it's fun to just browse and see what's out there.
Try it......you may just like it!
BTW, most recent purchase was a really nice pair of 14k earrings (new, not pre-owned) for my favorite person as a Christmas gift......only $35! My daughter LOVES 'em!

I bought a lot of my Christmas presents on eBay this year. I found a better selection and lower prices, even figuring in postage. I would caution you to ALWAYS check a seller's feedback before buying anything, especially coins and collectibles. There are an awful lot of fakes out there. And NEVER buy anything from China!

I've found eBay to be one of the few places left that you can find things NOT made in China.

I have decided to sell some more of my "treasures" on eBay. I'm getting better with my camera! One of the things I'm selling is an old metal purse that must date from the 1920s or earlier. It isn't marked for silver content, but it's definitely sterling - I tested it twice. It has two very tiny marks near the clasp; one is an arrow (pointing left), and the other is a pentagram containing a figure I can't make out. What makes it interesting is the mesh; it is made partly of wire loops, but also partly of what look like tiny washers or discs. These reflect more light than the wire loops, so when the light hits it, it looks like a checkerboard pattern. Anyone have any idea of what it might be?
