May I trade? I originally had an idea, but it seems like it won't work out. I will take Aluminum if it's alright.

Even here where it is traditionally spelled al,uminium, more and more people pronounce it aluminum, to the horror of older people who can't understand why they mispronounce the word which so clearly has an 'i' in it, like most other metals. The oxide alumina doesn't pose any problems for anyone :)

the traditional spelling does NOT include that random comma - aluminium is it.

I always hear Scotty from Star Trek when I hear aluminum - the bit in "the one with the whales" where he is trying to talk to the computer, and then gives the random present time blokey the "recipe" for some wonderful new form of aluminium. (And now I am exposed forever as a sad Trekkie nerd lol)

The English way for me. Emphasis on the 'min' and 'ium' at the end.

I have grown up with the American pronunciation, aluminum. No I. So I'm used to that.
I also prefer "escape" to "exscape", "nuclear" to "nucular", and I know one person who pronounced "Christendom" as "Kris-TEN-dum", major emphasis on the "ten".

Firstly I would like to say thankyou for the warm welcome, secondly I would like to say L-U-MIN-E-UM and finally I would like to inform that my quiz 'Mercury Rising' has been submitted to the Music editors.

I thought about the aluminum/aluminium issue while starting this quiz... does it seem like it would be necessary to include a footnote in one of the questions or the introduction, or not?
I plan to use "aluminum" instead of the English spelling. I know there's some rule that I read somewhere long ago explaining that you should remain consistent with your American/English spellings, so that makes me think it's unnecessary.
Now I'm self-conscious about always saying "nucular..." I never realized how horribly I mispronounced it. I'm sitting here, mumbling it to myself as I type...
