I was fascinated by the coincidence of today's destion, East Timor, and a one-page spread in the Anzac Day supplement of today's West Australian newspaper. This article features the 2/2nd Independent Company, a Commando group who went to East Timor to try to stop the movement of the Japanese forces towards of Australia.
This is particularly important to me as my father was one of the 270 men in that company. That group were cut off from contact with Australia for several months, and were believed to have been either killed or captured. They did survive, and tied up an estimated 10 000 Japanese troops.

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the
announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out
of something in some manner.
