As this is a chain game it goes in here. Inspired by the 'Ask me' thread I thought of a true free association thread, where you simply write what you thought of after reading the last entry. No theme whatsoever of course, as it's basically what comes into your head first automatically. I'll start it off.

Please feel free to leave feedback for the site administrators. We will take all feedback into account as we tweak and add new features.
The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

C30 Whilst on about trains.........going from Bury St Edmunds to London at end of weekend leave, the train stopped at:-

Thurston, Elmswell, Haughley, Stowmarket, Needham Market, Claydon, Ipswich, Bentley, Mannitree, Ardleigh, Colchester, Marks Tey, Kelvedon, Whitham, Chelmsford, Shenfield, Ingatstone & London.! It was not a fast train!

At school never could understand the fascination many of my peers derived from hanging around fence to "spot" trains.

Mel,would you like us to send you some of our Trainspotters? They're VERY interesting people. Honest!

It's been a long time since I collected tickets as they stopped them in 1988 besides a few agencies that lasted a bit longer, and I spotted a couple of brand new stations on the Colchester-Ipswich route- that's a surprise considering closure was by far the fashion back then. I hope you did them from memory, that's the true test ;)

You spotted a "couple of brand new stations"! Satguru, stop now!

Well, in my neighborhood in Iowa, I live about four blocks from a train track, but it isn't used that much.

(I love that movie, too, Red. I also love "Legends of the Fall," and that's not about the US, either -- it's about Montana, even though it was filmed in British Columbia. You can tell from the first scene those aren't Montana mountains, but they sure are gorgeous. Brad Pitt being in both films has nothing to do with why I love them!)

(I like all of RJ's Bond friends, too, but I have to say, as much as I love Mr. Shaken, Not Stirred and Daniel Craig and Casino Royale and Vesper Lynde and poker, my very best friend in the world right now is named Ann Uity and we became best friends in the fall of 2008. Smartest move I've ever made, but I have an incredible advisor and I trust him completely. I really hope all of you made friends with her, too. You'll sleep better at night, trust me.)

So... Trainspotting. An interesting film, but what an odd sport. Or hobby. Or, what is it? I love trains, and can think of many, many train scenes from movies that are incredible, but I don't really "get" trainspotting as a sport. Can anyone explain it to me? I mean, I know what it is. The part I don't get is what makes it a group thing, or a sporting event, or... is it like bird-watching?

Hey! For real fun, go check out the dare Mel The Eurovision Fan and Fanatic made in the "My Vewwy Own Virtual Bwog!" Blog, and then just follow the breadcrumb trail to see who picked up the gauntlet and ran with it! I think in this case, the more readers and responders (and maybe even emergency responders,) the better!

What do I win? Is this like highstakes poker? Oh, how I hope that was a big, heavy pot! Mama needs new shoes, and that redwood pergola I had built over the hottub was pricy!

Well, there's nothing like derailing a perfectly good train of thought I suppose lol

Redviking: Absolute love all the punning/sparring going on in the previous pages. You're a very funny person : )

Ok, back to trainspotting: more like bird banding (where you record the numbers) than bird watching, except that you don't have to actually catch the train unless you intend to go somewhere. It wouldn't interest me, but then again I like to golf lol (a sport lots of people find useless and boring).

And as to the "theme" of this blog, what do I associate with trains? Mostly that it's the only form of public transportation I've never been sick on. Sad, really, because I love to see new places - it just takes 3 gravols and 2 shots of scotch to get me there ~

lesley153 Gravol for me too please. Sprog has had a week in France, and has just started throwing up - on his way home. I asked him if he could get some ginger - du gingembre. Probably easier to buy in a hurry in a foreign country than Dimenhydrinate. :(

lesley153 Perhaps more effective too. I never found Dramamine much help on aeroplanes, but homeopathic tablets worked a treat. Dramamine mixed with whisky could be worth trying.

lesley153 Forget le gingembre - he's got du Dramamine, and says he's slowly feeling better. Phew.

(When I type in parentheses, I'm whispering to someone, off to the side. A sidebar, if you will.)

Getting sick on a train is just miserable. The only time it happened to me was on a fully-packed train, leaving from Whitefish, Montana and arriving in Spokane, Washington. We had to sit facing backwards, and that's all it took for me. And no Dramamine to be found.

Trainspotting sounds more interesting now that it's been explained to me. Thanks!

Perhaps slightly more interesting than throwing up!

I've had someone get sick in my kitchen

C30 Satguru..............Yep, stations entirely from memory, so may well have missed a couple! Especially since I moved from East Anglia in 1994!
Btw, read somewhere that the old "Broadsman" (or was it "Fenman"......one went via Cambridge, one via Ipswich, can't remember which was which) Express hauled by a Britannia Class Steam Locomotive, did the trip in 10 minutes LESS than a modern train manages. Progress is a wonderful thing!

C30 Jazmee...........throwing up in various places throughout the home is a daily "occupational hazard" when sharing home with felines! Them, not me, that is!

lesley153 Being sick on anything isn't that good. I was travel sick on land when I was little but have never been very good on water or in the air. Most notable flight was on Laker Airways, so cheap, the sickbags had holes in them.

To stave off motion sickness, I just whistle the first seven notes of "It's a Small World" incessantly. It's amazing how effective that is. Everyone but me is blowing chunks after the fiftieth iteration.
