He was a tad annoyed. But not as much as my Dad - he was 'Officer of the Watch'!
I think my backside's still sore from that one! :((

That would be around 1963,Ray. "Baby Sailors" were called "Troggs" then. :))

Didn't like to show my ignorance Lesley..........I did my training at GANGES but never heard of a "Blue Pass".......I suspect something issued to service families that enables them access to the establishment........but could be way out.
Come on Red...........tell!
Btw Red........."Trogs" were known as "Nozzers" in my GANGES days!

Here in the United States, "baby sailors" or "trogs" are called millitary brats.

Well done,Ray - that's absolutely bang on! A perfect description of a 'Blue Pass'. So called because it was...... Blue........:))
Hope that's not too disappointingly mundane,Lesley? :))

QMel...........here "Military Brats" are the children of members of the armed forces............."Nozzers, Trogs, Sprogs"..........all names for new inhabitants of what you would call "Boot Camp".
It used to be permitted for teenagers between ages of 15-17 to join the Royal Navy proper........these were trained at the naval shore establishments of HMS ST. VINCENT (Portsmouth) or HMS GANGES (Near Ipswich). I did 12 months training at GANGES.
"Adult service" was deemed to start at the age of 18, so in reality, when I arrived back in Portsmouth after serving 18 months in Far East,in December 1959, I had actually clocked up 2 days of my 9 year enlistment!
