Do you think all these reality tv shows today are staging alot of the events, or do you think the events shown are actually real?

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

Reality TV is not reality TV unless no one knows there is a camera present! Knowing there is a camera VASTLY alters the way a person would normally behave! Most everyone is "playing" to the camera!

I agree to a point. I think after awhile, people forget or don't care about the camera.

rieker01 Depends on what you mean by reality. It is definitely not scripted, but how many times do they make people do the same thing over and over. Creative Editing helps too plus there is always the build up.

I don't know why they still call them reality shows. Most of the "regular" people on these shows have been coached to behave differently than they normally would in order to make so-called "better television". There's a glut of these shows because it's cheaper programming for the networks, while good-quality, unemployed writers still scramble to find work in other fields.

Its faction. It's semi-authentic situations edited to the point where it bears so little resemblance to reality it might as well be fiction.

Depends on the series. Some of the ones on truTV aren't, but I think most of the others are, and I don't watch any but what is on truTV for that reason.

I like some reality shows such as Big Brother and Survivor, but they are directed and not so much reality. I think my favorite and "only" reality show is Deadliest Catch, you can't fake injury or death! Still miss you Phil!

deputygary It seems more and more shows are pseudo-reality. Shows like "Operation Repo" purport to be reality but, in fact, they are recreations of repossession situations. "Pawn Stars" seems to be another pseudo-reality show. I doubt that they film every single customer who comes in wanting to pawn something. If they have something unique or unusual, they probably cue the person to come in again on-camera with the item. How else could Rick, Corey, et al. know so much history on the items. They clearly bone up before the cameras roll.
