The latest bits of writing:
===
At some point I must have drifted off to sleep again, because next thing I know someone’s shaking me awake. “Don’t mean to startle you,” said a young, familiar voice, “but you were screaming in your sleep and thrashing about.” Instantly, I was wide awake. “Anastasia,” I exclaimed, surprised to see my friend, “what are you doing here?” And do you know, her cheeks flamed and she had to look away as she replied, “looking in on Alonso.” Which prompted me to ask, “What’s he doing here?” “Why, keeping watch over you,” she explained as if it were the most obvious thing in the universe.
When I was finally able to speak to my twin alone, I demanded some answers: “Why did Anastasia tell me you were ‘keeping watch’ on me? I don’t need—“ “Ontario,” he cut in quickly, “there’s a lot to tell you, but tonight’s not the time. You need to rest and regain your strength.” And no matter how much I begged and pleaded, he wouldn’t give me the answers I so desperately craved. It was one of the most frustrating days of my life.

Mom hiked a place called Cucumber Falls
She's on the turnpike, and Monique (her GPS) says she'll be home around 7

She's home, and we agreed that she'll come over tomorrow. She still has to unpack, take off the bike, and get ready for work in the morning.
She was going to come over briefly, but I argued we'd likely be able to spend more time tomorrow (why rush the visit when it could be a more leisurely one?) Besides, she'd still have unpacking and everything to do if she came tonight, whereas if she waits then at least that's done

She did come over last night after all because she had four pieces of bread for me, as well as a bigger one for Grandma

Lots of stuff to rant about today:
First, the federal government (IRS) is a bunch of idiots, so Grandma still can’t go to work. She’s working with a special tax program, but her employer can only submit so many returns under the number he has because, as he’s a licensed a ttorney, doing so many will cause his insurance to go up. The IRS gave them another number to use, but it hasn’t been “initialized” or “authorized,” or whatever word they use. Bunch of “geniuses.”
And speaking of “genius,” the call Deb Bybee got last week from her doctor said she needs a total knee replacement. Three years ago, some “genius” at LOA (Lebanon Orthopedic Associates), told her she was too young to have a partial knee. Now, there’s been too much damage—and she just can’t afford to be off work six to eight weeks; had she had the partial, she’d only have to be out two to three weeks.
Third rant: the receipt to the tape player Grandma bought me at the end of January says the in-store warranty is ninety days (or is it the manufacturer warranty; whatever). But, according to the manager, since she bought the extended warranty, it voids the ninety days. “No where on here does it say that.” The manager’s one of those with no people skills, who doesn’t get along with her fellow workers. One of said workers, Grandma thinks his name was Tommy, agreed with her. He ordered a player from somewhere else, and it should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. Grandma’s hoping tomorrow because she’s out of a car Wednesday.
Fourth, and last (for now), thing: Grandma was going to bring up Michael’s taxes to this couple she works for. Unfortunately, she didn’t bring the stuff with her as she didn’t get the 1099 over the weekend. Apparently, one of the people Michael works with always waits around till the last minute before sending it. “She claims she sent it Monday,” Grandma told me Saturday (or did she say Wednesday?), “but she couldn’t have because we’d have had it by now.”

Grandma's out of a job again
She had been working for an attorney and his accountant wife, but they were waiting for this number the IRS assigns to be authorized.
Now, Leonard and Gina are expanding, and have hired a paralegal to help them with family law cases. Apparently, he's also certified with the IRS so he has one of these numbers.
Grandma's quite upset, but convinced that her initial impression ("It's too good to be true") was correct

Mom thinks I'm being too hasty in calling maintenance to look at the heating/cooling system." "It's only March, and we could still have some cold days, so are you sure you want to do that." Am I sure I don't, seeing as temps are heading into the 80's by Wednesday? (I know what month it is; yes, part of me thinks it's way too early, but the fact is pollen's already floating around. It's a good thing there's no smoke to exacerbate the problem this year.)

While he was her he looked a the heating/cooling system. He said the radiatr downstairs is full of water, so the air won't work; still, he tried my unit, and says it works.

Just called Kmart. They still sell the Sony Boombox, the portable CD/cassette/radio like I have, but they're out of stock. And the price has gone down from $150 about two or three years ago to $50.
They're not sure when they'll get more, so I'll call again in a few weeks--then make arrangements to go buy one.

Grandma's car's at the garage
And RadioShack didn't have the tape player today. Grandma asked if, if it's there tomorrow, they can hold it until Thursday. She was told they could, so... we'll see what happens.

To summarize in just a few words, the book's about kidnapping, identity theft and interior design.
Mom got her car back. There was a loose cable or whatever. And it's good thing the garage was able to squeeze it in before Thursday: Mom has to be in Harrisburg at 8 tomorrow (that's about 45 minutes from here)
