Welcome, all! Sit down on one of the couches, or pull up a chair: itâ??s all about comfort in my little place. Some of the furnishings have yet to be installed, but itâ??s still nice and comfortable :)

Music, food, games, talk--whatever you want :))

Mom's lying down to rest. I'm to call her in about an hour and a half "to make sure I'm still kicking." My response: you better be! "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

lesley153 Sounds like a great storecupboard. You won't starve and you won't get scurvy. Glad your grandmother's recovering, hope your mother will be too.

She's awake now, and about to eat a bowl of soup which she made today. She'll bring some over to me tomorrow.

I was hungry for fries, so I ordered a large and a chicken tenderloin sub, which I didn't eat but put in the fridge for tomorrow. My total was $9.91, so I asked the delivery woman if she had a ten. "I'm going to have to give you ten ones, sorry." Don't apologize-ten ones or a ten, it's all the same amount. "But don't you notice when you spend it the money goes faster?" Well, I never really thought of itlike that, but yeah (maybe it's because we lose track of ones more easily than the larger denominations).

Mom and I took the same philosophy class, years apart, but with the same instructor

I wish I'd kept more of my stuff-all I have is the syllabus and the texts Mom scanned into the computer, oh and a page of notes for the one chapter the instructor gave us

But Mom *did* save the notes she took-as well as the papers she wrote. It's rather interesting :) Maybe I'll share some of this with you, as it's loads more interesting than computers or accounting or even biology (which just so happens to be one of the classes I failed-and though the course was the same, and it was the same college, apparently it was a different teacher)

I did, however,, take another philosophy, so after I'm done going through the 'intro' stuff, it's back to my folder for the 'Comparative Religion' stuff

Another interesting tidbit: Mom and I both took intro psyc, but there again had different instructors-and again, Mom kept *everything!

Right now, I feel like going back for more warrior legends:

Kidnapped

She woke up in a cage, her head fuzzy as if she’d just consumed a sizable quantity of alcohol. A blindfold was secured so tightly around her eyes that it
chafed against her skin, and she felt the cold iron bars under her. “Just great,” the twelve-year-old thought sarcastically, “here I am, caged up like
a bloody animal, with no clue as to my whereabouts… Oh, and I’m naked!"
“Are we awake yet?” a gravelly voice asked.
Go away, Isabelle thought as hard as she could, just go away!
“You’re by far the prettiest specimen I’ve ever had,” the voice continued.
Specimen! Isabelle thought indignantly. I’m not some creature you’ve ccaught, you… She felt hot tears spring to her eyes, followed by shame that that monster
could see them as they fell. That shame and anger was tempered slightly by relief as she heard The Ferguson turn and walk away.
”Later, my dearest.” The young woman shuddered, her mind conjuring up countless scenarios of untold pain and degradation.

Know thy enmy (rvised)

“What—“ The first thing Ontario Gonzales noticed when he opened his eyes was the utter darkness. Not that he minded; any light would have been sheer agony
to his aching head. Still, fear gripped him. He didn’t know where he was. He was alone. And, most important, his Powers were either gone or completely
useless.

Aivahri Ordevahran’s eyes pleaded with his cousin to hear him out, to understand. “I realize it’s an unbelievable story, but I swear to you that every word
of it is true.”
The Prince of Qirynse stared at the younger boy incredulously. “Just how dense do you think I am?” he demanded harshly. “Apart from the fact that I’m still
breathing, the way you’ve behaved in your life spells out ‘guilty!’”
The 11-year-old sighed miserably. “I have already explained it is not I who am your enemy.”
The Prince snorted. “Oh yes? That’s why you whisked me away from my classes, and keep me from contacting those I love most!”
___
Like so many of these, I couldn't read it the way it was, as I'd lumped too many (disjointed) parts together (so I separated them an renamed most).

Last Resort

Anisahra Ivorsetiyah raised her hand and waited patiently until the teacher looked up. “What do we know about the Illusion of Death?”
The question took Rozeta by surprise, so it was a few seconds before she spoke. “I believe the spell was introduced ten thousand years ago in Qirynse or
thereabouts…” She looked down at the floor, searching her memory.
A soft hand on her shoulder made her look up. “You know, you could have asked me.” Nick’s eyes were teasing.
“Oh… Silly me!”
“I guess I’ll forgive you just this once.”
“Class, I don’t know much about the subject—but Nick does, and he’s volunteered to share that knowledge.”
Nick threw his wife a look of mock irritation. “Yes, Illusion of Death is Qiryntian. It made its way to Scenoria soon after, to the town of Khavatiro, to
be exact.” He paused, and Anisahra’s hand rose once more. “Yes?”
“Khavatiro was founded by Qiryntian rebels escaping war in that kingdom.”
Rozeta nodded, smiling. “At least some of you study your history!”
Anisahra blushed, and Nick continued: “Somehow, the Xynoran forces became aware of it… and the Sentorians. Otherwise, the practice is fairly localized.”
Anisahra’s hand rose again. “Isn’t there a certain skill level you have to achieve in order to perform it.”
The teacher and her assistant exchanged a sour look. “Here’s where things get… complicated. Any witch or wizard who wants to can use this powerful magic—though
it’s easier if he or she has attained at least a level fifty.” He turned to Rozeta.
“However, there is also a potion one can use--“ She glanced pleadingly at Nick, who sighed.
“However, the potion takes a long time to brew and doesn’t last long, so you need to make just enough. But whether you’re using the spell, potion, or a
combination of both, the Illusion of Death is a last resort because of the massive amounts of energy it employs.”

Lecture 4799 (one of the few I left as is)

The 42-year-old stared at her son in amazement. "Don't you think you should at least decline their invitation?"
The young adult shook his head vehemently. "No, I don't!”
"Lutrisahno," Kora said, trying for a conciliatory tone, "just because yourrelationship didn't work out doesn't mean you should avoid her wedding to someone
else-especially not when the entire school, with one exception, is invited."
"I think it'll be better for everyone if I not attend."
"Then," said his mother tiredly, "tell her straight out instead of hiding away like a baby!"
"But she'll..."
"What? Try to disuade you? I don't think so-and if you do, you don't know Maria at all!"

Life's Release

Cheveyo’s footsteps slowed as he felt the telltale release of energy that came after someone had died. “It’s too late.”
As if the weather were in full agreement, the rain that had been forecast for days, but which had been suspiciously absent, came pouring down in sheets.
Biting back tears, the 25-year-old turned and headed back home. “Or maybe I’ll keep going… No use being a wizard when stuff like this can happen, and there’s
nothing…”

This one can best be called a "fragment," and not a "draft"

Limitation

The Protector Spirit growled low in his throat. “You mind telling me why we’re just standing around doing nothing?”
His teacher and mentor sighed. “Without knowing where he is—“
“Use a Locator Spell to find him!”
“If only it were that simple.” Rozeta Ormea sank into a chair, her face etched with sorrow.
“Don’t tell me the power’s down again?”
A booming mind voice, followed by a fainter and weaker one, shattered the silence that met his question. “Don’t be rude, Tony!” He’s calling the shots again.
The two Protectors stared at each other in stunned silence, then Tony dropped his gaze, feeling uncomfortable.
Wordlessly, Rose put a hand on the man’s arm. “No need to apologize.” He shook his head, confused, but she motioned for him to remain silent. “It’s easy
to get short with others when things we don’t understand are happening all around us.” She gulped. “And I’ll have you know, we’re doing what we can to
locate the child and stop the Dark in their tracks… It just so happens we’re limited in what we can do.”
Antonio nodded, feeling drained. “Can I interject something now?” At her nod, he explained about the one who called himself Mendrana Morehnta [Rhozestheynta]
and of his partner, Rhozeynta. “Both Odomahra complement each other magically and in other ways…” He broke off, uncertain how to continue.

Massive Oversight

Devlyn’s shoulders shook. “How could we not know!”
His wife gently massaged tense muscles. “The protections failed.”
“But how could this have happened?”

Master of Lies and Betrayal

“For the past two and a half years, Calloway’s effectively tricked us—but thanks to Maranda…”
Kora took up the story. “She’s too upset to come here herself. She was Morrison’s girlfriend… And all was fine until about a week ago…”
Maria leaned forward, curious despite a growing feeling of anger.

By the way, for the newer stories I just look at a title or read something, then find my fingers flying across the keys (I wait until I've written a draft before even attempting a title)

Many of the drafts are based on earlier drafts (from last year, as it were)

But some of the ones I've written recently (today and yestrday) are based on a combination of Conan the Barbarian and scenes from my imagination (for a few of my stories, there's some inspiration from Grace Chetwin, and R.A. Salvatore or Mercedes Lackey give voice to others-one scene, I think, came from Brandon Sanderson; note, these are the authors that have most prominently influenced my latest writing but by no means all the authors who have inspired me through the years)

Master of Torture and Pain

Viktorio Ramirez fingered a piece of paper in his pocket. "That was far easier than I'd imagined," he told his sister and wife, Viktoria. She nodded,
and he handed the blank page to her. After muttering afew words, a letter appeared:
Dear King Orsevito and Quee Jasmyna Ordevahran:
We have one of the twins, and are willing to offer an exchange-your oldest boy for him.
Failure to act will result in you never seeing your son again.
You have twelve hours to decide, or his fate is sealed.
Yours, Torture King and Queen

The King in Name Alone smiled. "I'll meet you at home."
She thanked him and watched as he grabbed Ontario by the scruff of the neck and disappeared.
"I'll just hand-deliver this note, then follow in my husband's footsteps. And once I'm home, the baby's all mine.”

Messed Up

“We can’t call him back as his Communicator’s been turned off.”
Nick swore under his breath. “Just what we need—a complication!”
“I’ll go find him if I have to walk all across the Universe to do it,” Tony promised.
Nick stared out the window for a few moments, lost in thought—then nodded. “If the situation weren’t so serious…”
Rose handed her star pupil an object the size of a Communicator but a different shape. “Long-distance variety.”
“Thanks.”
