The Students
Matilda Evans sighed. How she hated this part of college life. “It would be so much more enjoyable if I could use my Powers—“ But she wouldn’t, she being
a member of the Justice Squad.
Victoria Hendrix hunched over her typewriter and sighed. The report was due in final form on Monday, and she hadn’t even started writing. “How do you begin
talking on such a disturbing topic?”
Victoria’s brow furrowed as she read the page for what felt like the hundredth time:
Indigineous peoples the universe over are facing extinction via diseases, bloss of lifestyle and…
And what? How did one explain in a word or two how the natives were being rounded up in carts, or sometimes shot in cold blood on the street? “All these
weeks, slaving over a typewriter, and…” The twenty-year-old sat bolt upright in her chair, a hand over her mouth to stifle a gasp of excitement. In no
time, her hands were flying over the keys. Only when her arms were screaming for a break did she stop and read over her latest inspiration:
Their only crime was that they were indigenous Mnoibrvanans. Now the two parents lie on a deserted street, their clothes encrusted with dried blood, their
bodies attracting more flies by the minute, their children dragged off to who knows where for unknown torment.
The above scenario is hardly uncommon. As it says in The Universe’s Many Injustices, “Those who do not die in captivity find their original food sources
either to be nonexistent or extremely depleted.”
Victoria pounded her fist on the table. “This looks like a pile of trash ready for the dumpster!” The 20-year-old put her head in her hands and took a few
deep, shuddering breaths. “Time for a break.”

The Test
Maria gazed at each of her students in turn. “The spell I want you to work on during the next few classes is very difficult but will, I have no doubt, become
very useful in certain… let’s call them rough spots… times the enemy have you cornered and there may be no other course of action—“
“Talk about confusing explanations!”
“Oh, ... Devlyn!”
“No respect for me—story of my life.”
“Oh, poor you!”
Tony’s focus sharpened. “Even I can’t do this—only level 34 or higher can!”
Sophia bent towards him. “I hear things have changed since we learned… that now one must master level 50 before attempting the Illusion of Death.”
“Level… but that means—“
“There is at least one in this room who exhibits the possibility—“
“Hold that thought, Sophie.”
The Assistant Headmistress looked down self-consciously. She’d done it again. “Strike that, class… What we’re going to do today is test your overall magical
ability—“
“You’re a wonder, Tony, you know that?”
“Just doing my duty.” And then he went rigid, his eyes unfocused. “Vasqorvyn.”
“What?”
“Qydra the A-- in Sentorian—no, sorry, Scenorian.”
“Let’s get out of here, then.”
“You’ll have to—you know how my Powers get when—“
“Tsoraina Mahrkeevo!”

Tirade
Miles away, Conan Ferguson threw the receiver down in disgust. “Some help would be nice, but no—just watch from your little palace while your lackeys do
the dirty work!” He paused, breathing hard, then continued his private tirade: “You think just because you’re the Monarch of Darkness you can just order
others around like—“
The 10-year-old slumped in a chair, his muscles quivering with resentment. “Meyhoncdra Ardeko: if only you’d leave your precious heated pools every once
in a while, maybe your Subjects would respect you more, like they did your father before he abdicated in order to join the fight.”

The war room
oreyna Morehnta stroked the eleven-year-old's hair. "I'm so sorry."
For several moments, Devlin sniffed uncontrollably-then said, "I don't have time for this!"
Kora said nothing, knowing exactly what he meant-a babe's life hung in the balance.
Fifteen minutes later, they were all in the palace War Room. The air of tension was so thick Kora was surprised no one was choking on it.
The young Sentorian monarch squared his shoulders and looked around at his small army. "You all know what to do?"
Those assembled nodded. "Best of luck to you all, and may the Protector guide your steps."
The King of Sentoria chuckled darkly. "Sounds like she was careless."
His aunt nodded. "Looks that way, but…”
Kora couldn't put her finger on it, but it felt like... well, like they were all missing a piece of the puzzle, and that maybe Viktoria had _wanted to
be captured. Why?
A thought occurred to her later that night:
Could the Queen of Torture have been protecting someone? Who?
An even darker thought entered her mind, one that she couldn't shake off:
It had been two weeks since Orsevito Ordevahran Jr. had disappeared. Child sexual abuse was not uncommon in Sentoria or the neighboring kingdom of Scenoria,
nor was accelerated pregnancy.
If one knos the right words, magic can be used for almost anything!"
The thirty-one-year-old shuddered. Now she fvelt wide awake, in spite of the fact that she was truly tired.
"And where, in all the universe, is Ontario?" And is he even still alive? a nasty voice whispered.

Touched by the hand of Darkness
Nick gazed at his wife, his eyes smoldering. “No, Rose. You can’t give up!”
“How many times do you want to rehash this? I’m too old—“
“Nonsense—but, if we’re using that kind of warped logic, so am I!”
“Your abilities haven’t been touched by The Darkness in the same way mine have.”
“How can you know that?” The two Elder Protectors glared at each other angrily.

Without a trace
Jasmyna felt her composure slip as she surveyed the unmade bed. “Orsevito!” Within seconds, he was beside her, his eyes questioning. “He’s gone!”

I'm off to wash dishes, as I didn't do that yesterday
And I think I'll eat my sub now :)
After I eat and wash the dishes, I'll take my bath and get dressed and prepare for Mom to come over

Dishes done, sub gone
The only thing marring that is the question, 'where is my brace?' I have one, but haven't seen he other for weeks and have no clue where to look (coincidentally, that's why I cleaned out the desk drawer)
It can't just have disappeared, could it? :(
Two weeks ago, Mom and Grandma were trying to find it. Not on the floor, behind the desk or uner it-so it remains in hiding

Under the bed or couch?

Not under the couch, as it's real narrow under there and yesterday I was looking for the sticky pads for the feet on my chairs, and felt nothing when my hand went under.
I didn't look under the other chair, though.
Nothing under the table that holds the TV, and the endtables with Ethan's cage and the CD player are closed underneath

Whatever happened to “first do no harm?”
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/greek/greek_oath.html.
“Contrary to popular belief,
the Hippocratic Oath is not required by most modern medical schools”
“It also does not explicitly contain the phrase, "First, do no harm””
What is included is the following:
“I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgement, and I will do no harm or injustice to them.”
“I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan”
“In purity and according to divine law will I carry out my life and my art.”
“Into whatever homes I go, I will enter them for the benefit of the sick”
Note the part on confidentiality (which, ironically, is still a big thing in the medical community-although plenty of “medical personnel” are themselves corrupt, and therefore are unlikely to uphold the privacy/best interest of their patients
Of course, this is not to say that none do-for my GP is among those who genuinely cares and upholds the ethics of the profession, in spite of the increasingly busy schedule granted to him by Corporate America

Mom doesn't believe the brace was under the stuffed chair as "it goews all the way down to the floor." Not quite: there's a little space underneath where an object can be shoved under. "I don't feel like arguing with you. I'm just glad you found it."
She's "digging in the dirt" right now, and isn't sure when she'll make it over.

Mom walked over, as she wanted to get some exercise.
The other day, when she brought my tea, she asked what I’d ordered, as she always orders some, too. She drinks the diet blueberry and pomegranate, and I get the regular. Turns out, she mixed the stuff up, so she thought maybe Grandma had gotten me diet instead of giving me some of hers. She saw some of mine in her refrigerator and brought them over, then since she was walking home after going who knows where, put hers in the bottom drawer. And I don’t know how, since I’ve been drinking mine, but I didn’t even touch one of hers-so I had no idea of the mix-up until this afternoon.
Now I’ve got more food: two corn pie, two slices of pizza, two containers of ham-and-bean soup, and a round Kool Whip container of “Food of the Gods,” better known as ambrosia.
And I was working on a new quiz earlier.
