I thought about this for a while, as the parent and as the child, and my final thoughts were very different from my initial reaction.

Do you think Dad has done the right thing, or at least the best thing?

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

I'm the typical "spoilt" daddy's girl. However, not as you would typically think - I didn't get away with murder and was expected to pull my weight at home. As soon as I got a Saturday job a percentage was handed up to Mam.

However, any time there was a game on I was there with Dad although not necessarily supporting the same team (he'll never understand how the daughter of a Munster Rugby fan has a season ticket at Leinster). Shopping trips were always with Mam - until the day she realised I had more shoes than she had!

I was spoilt more with love rather than material things and have learnt to appreciate how much more valuable that is. I can never thank my parents enough for what they gave me.
