Subject: The Pangalactic Sunnies Challenge
Date: Mar 02 12
With Kyle's permission, I am going to launch an activity of my own, especially created for those of you who just never seem to have enough options to stretch your authoring skills to the limits and beyond.
At its heart, this is a new marathon quiz authoring race requiring a combination of speed, persistence, quality and variance. While you could win up to six badges(*) for finishing, those are standard awards you'll just happen to pick up on the way (unless you already have them). Essentially, you are thus competing for the love of authoring and for the bragging rights to have completed one of the most demanding authoring quests that will ever hit the site.
The race is open to every FT author and will run for as long as people wish to continue working on it. You can start the race at any time by signing up. Then, your goal is to write one sunglassed quiz per category, begun after the signup date (those you wrote before don't count). Each of these must be for an author challenge or for an author lounge activity (lounge challenge, commission). Report your finished works here once they have received their Sunnies to be added to the leaderboard. Finishers will be sorted by the time needed from signup to their 20th set of shades (so late starters will never be penalized). If anyone does this under a year, they're a master author, but anyone seeing this to the end will be a champion in their own right.
Oh yes, should you finish this and want to try again to improve your time, feel free to reenter. We'll keep your best time and your number of completions!
A few answers before you ask the corresponding questions:
In order not to penalize those who have taken an early jump at "Stepping Up XII", you *may* count a quiz you've done for that challenge even if you have already begun it. If you wish to do so, just notify me with your signup that you wish to retroactively sign up as of yesterday (March 1).
Quizzes written for The Amazing Trivia Race by those not yet arrived do count only if they are also author challenges and have been begun on March 1 or later.
If you still have to create a work in any other challenge or commission you entered before your signup date which you have never yet submitted to an editor, you CAN finish, submit and count it. This would be a good time to catch up on your commissions!
If you get an Editor's Choice on a quiz, it will qualify even if does not get actual Sunnies. This is also a great way to avoid the wait for ratings and shave several weeks off your score!
Once a quiz has been crosschecked and marked off on your grid, it does not matter whether it does retain its Sunny status later on. Once qualified, it remains qualified.
You are responsible for reporting your quizzes yourself in this thread once they do qualify (please provide a link for quick checking). It's best to check on Monday afternoon or Tuesday, that way you will always catch those newly awarded Sunnies early.
If you have added no new quizzes to your score for three months, your name will be dropped from the public listing of racers. However, you will remain in the internal database and once you do submit another qualifying quiz, you will be back in the list. This is just to weed out those who abandoned the game.
I will provide regular updates to the standings once the first quizzes start rolling in (which will obviously take 3-4 weeks). Kyle will be using his magical mod powers to add them to this post.
To make things easy for me, please do not link to your quizzes in this thread until they qualify.
If you have any further questions, just ask away. Good luck!

Please feel free to leave feedback for the site administrators. We will take all feedback into account as we tweak and
add new features.
The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the
announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out
of something in some manner.
