It has seemed, over the past weeks, that some of our authors (specifically some of our racers) have had a bit of trouble acclimatizing to a slower pace. This is a reasonable thing to say-- I've had the pleasure of pushing you guys around FunTrivia for a good couple months (and longer) to write way out of your comfort zones. Some people just want more. Luckily, I do too.

That's why we're going for a FunTrivia Sprint.

This Sprint, like the Race, is not for the author who isn't ready to get their hands dirty and explore new grounds...quickly. The rules are as follows:

  • Wes and I have both created sprint courses; both are different.

  • Sprinters will be able to complete the Sprint as individuals or in teams of two. Once you figure out if you're going alone or in a double, you will need to choose one of the following options:
    * Normal Pairs: One member of the pair must complete either K or W.
    * Normal single: Play either K or W for each round. You choose which one you want.
    * Hardcore single: Choose K or W on the first task, stick with it for the rest of the game.
    * Hardcore pairs: On each set, one must complete K and one W.

  • Sprinters will receive tasks via the Lounge here-- even if you're not sprinting you'll be able to see the tasks as they appear.

  • There are a predetermined amount of tasks and all sprinters will receive the clues at the same time. This is not a race against competitors; it is a race for yourselves. This leads into the most important point.

  • Authors will have five days to write the quiz. This does not include queue times. The timer begins when the task is announced and ends when the quiz goes online.

The tasks will vary in many ways-- some will take authors to categories they never believed they would be able to visit and others may involve some of the site's most popular authors and quizzes.

If you wish to sign up, let us know here.
**If you wish to attempt the Hardcore options, please note whether you would like to select set A or set B. You will not know whose set is whose until we begin the sprint.

The Sprint will commence on April 15th.

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

So, after lots of checking and re-checking of round 10 scores, I can release the results. The issue? A score that seemed to good to be true. However we found no indication of foul play whatsoever, so we do have a new "fastest lap" time.

    8 minutes.

That is EIGHT minutes. You can't hard-boil an egg in that time, but you can write a quiz. At least if you're Mariamir.

    Lones78 / zorba_scank for team normal in 16h 30m

    Mariamir Hold up, what?

    Eight minutes???

I had no idea I was so fast!

triviaking162 Wow, 8 minutes! From seeing the clue, to having an idea, to making a template probably leaves you with just about 5 minutes to make all the questions without corrections! Sounds a little fishy, but I will still say great job!

How did you do that, mariamir? That's like 30 seconds per question.

I am in awe. Congrats mariamir. :-)

Mariamir "I must admit to some serendipity on last week's quiz. Because I couldn't write it for several days, I saw three others come online, and had a pretty good idea what the requirement was going to be. I was even able to mull over possible titles and approaches in my head, saving probably about an hour of time. Then I chose to do FITB, with the same hint for every question (type it once, copy it to all the other hint boxes) - that meant no time spent coming up with viable MC options, and typing them in. Since the topic was familiar phrases, it wasn't very time consuming to write up the extra information - no lengthy research required. I will never again write a quiz that quickly!"

To quote l_t. So, basically, same thing. Only, since it was wordplay, I had almost no extra info to write. II is my biggest speed block!
Thank you, everyone! I set a goal to get the fastest time, since our team is definitely not going to place first!
Oh, one CAN boil an egg in that time if the water is already boiling...just saying. :P

And so has mine. Evil has been unleashed. You may begin your final task.

The pair of you are wicked and evil and I can't decide which of you is worse on this last task. Not a lot to choose between you. I think you're just sitting there laughing at the thought of the extra grey hairs you've just given me.

Pass the chocolate and the gin please.

That sounds ominous. I'm deferring the joy of finding out what they've come up with until tomorrow.

Plodd just became the first official finisher of the Sprint. The quiz went online without any issues and it managed to adhere to my clue as well.

Well done Plodd. I'm 7 questions in so hope to finish in a bit - then just hope it goes online OK.

My coffee maker broke....so until I get to the store in the morning, my quiz writing will have to wait...must have the essentials before starting...also, great job marissa...8 minutes is much faster than anything I could do even if I drank a dozen espressos before clicking on the clue...Great Job!

Swamped this weekend with a religious convention. It's all I can do to play my daily games for the team. I'll do this Monday or Wednesday. :-)
