It has seemed, over the past weeks, that some of our authors (specifically some of our racers) have had a bit of trouble acclimatizing to a slower pace. This is a reasonable thing to say-- I've had the pleasure of pushing you guys around FunTrivia for a good couple months (and longer) to write way out of your comfort zones. Some people just want more. Luckily, I do too.

That's why we're going for a FunTrivia Sprint.

This Sprint, like the Race, is not for the author who isn't ready to get their hands dirty and explore new grounds...quickly. The rules are as follows:

  • Wes and I have both created sprint courses; both are different.

  • Sprinters will be able to complete the Sprint as individuals or in teams of two. Once you figure out if you're going alone or in a double, you will need to choose one of the following options:
    * Normal Pairs: One member of the pair must complete either K or W.
    * Normal single: Play either K or W for each round. You choose which one you want.
    * Hardcore single: Choose K or W on the first task, stick with it for the rest of the game.
    * Hardcore pairs: On each set, one must complete K and one W.

  • Sprinters will receive tasks via the Lounge here-- even if you're not sprinting you'll be able to see the tasks as they appear.

  • There are a predetermined amount of tasks and all sprinters will receive the clues at the same time. This is not a race against competitors; it is a race for yourselves. This leads into the most important point.

  • Authors will have five days to write the quiz. This does not include queue times. The timer begins when the task is announced and ends when the quiz goes online.

The tasks will vary in many ways-- some will take authors to categories they never believed they would be able to visit and others may involve some of the site's most popular authors and quizzes.

If you wish to sign up, let us know here.
**If you wish to attempt the Hardcore options, please note whether you would like to select set A or set B. You will not know whose set is whose until we begin the sprint.

The Sprint will commence on April 15th.

Kyle (or another mod) - can you please kill off #1231 entirely? I'll redo the winner post from scratch due to the two am/pm errors

Wes and Kyle ... thanks for the challenge guys

I enjoyed it because it was motivational and it stretched me ... heck, I've even written a "whodunnit". Whilst I felt that the quizzes I'd written stand up OK I must admit that I developed a "race" mode that wasn't conducive to writing really good quizzes. Worse, I grew some bad habits which sort of crept into the other quizzes that I was writing (Wes .. you even picked me up on one of those).

If there is something similar in the future I will not say no to it but will use it for inspiration and motivation. I'll still push myself but my emphasis will shift to trying to write a better quality quiz.

Re: "Kyle: 12:09 am translates to 0:09, not 12:09 :)"

True that. I must've been asleep at the switch.

-This is part of the goal with the next big thing. :)

The almost final standings (pending shuehorn's last two and editing on pollucci19/tazman6619):

    http://www.krath.org/sprint-12.png

    Final rankings, top 10:

    1st - 0:22:12 days - Lones78/zorba_scank (1st, Pairs)
    2nd - 1:00:13 days - Rossian (1st, Single Normal)
    3rd - 1:02:37 days - Malik24 (1st, Single HC)
    4th - 1:09:11 days - looney_tunes (2nd, Single Normal)
    5th - 2:05:33 days - dcpddc478/reedy (2nd, Pairs)
    6th - 2:09:32 days - Creedy (3rd, Single Normal)
    7th - 2:17:07 days - WesleyCrusher (2nd, Single HC)
    8th - 2:17:37 days - Leith90/mlcmlc (3rd, Pairs)
    9th - 2:22:05 days - triviaking162 (4th, Single Normal)
    10th - 3:02:00 days - Pollucci19/tazman6619 (4th, Pairs)

10th place assumes that there will be no additional revisions on that quiz, otherwise Merylfederman will pass them.

    Special achievements:

Mariamir wrote the FASTEST QUIZ in just eight minutes.
looney_tunes, MikeMaster99 and Tiffanyram passed the course with ZERO REVISIONS.
WesleyCrusher was the only player to nab all three BONUSES.
Kyleisalive managed to do all twelve quizzes as PHOTO QUIZZES.
Rossian was the player with the MOST CONSISTENT performance - her slowest time was 3 hours, 18 minutes.

Out of originally 28 starting players/pairs, 23 have reached the finish line (Mariamir/shuehorn will be the 24th). 20 of them never ran afoul the 7 day limit.

I'll publish a final update when the last three quizzes are online, including a file showing all individual stage by stage timings.

    Congratulations to all finishers!

triviaking162 Congrats to Lones and Zorba! Job well done for getting a time under 1 day!

Once again, congrats to everyone who finished the Sprint!

Well done lones and zorba. Congratulations to everyone who finished this amazingly fun task. Thanks to Kyle and Wes for the ideas and the statistics. Looking forward to the "next big thing".

Congratulations to Lones and Zorba for beating the 24 hour barrier. Well done everyone for finishing this challenge - it was a tough one.

Despite having an absolute lock on the 'lantern rouge' ('award' for the slowest finisher in the Tour de France), I'm really pleased I finished this challenge. With a little luck and barring unseen plummets over the next fortnight with the last two quizzes, I will have managed sunnies for each quiz. But then I literally took a month longer than almost anyone else :-)

You've shown true Olympic spirit Mike. It is the taking part that counts, not the winning.

woot 11th place! I am chomping at the bit for the next one of these, I am literally twice as accomplished at quiz writing than I was before this, and I didn't even know during round one that people *didn't use their five days* hence my awful Round 1 time, so I am eager to go into something knowing how intense these things are1 Goodness I'm excited to do the next thing. Though if there was an Amazing Race style quiz-*playing* thing to break up the action before it, I wouldn't object to that either.

High expectations for the competition runners going around here, that's for sure :-)

Thanks very much ChristinaP. I hugely enjoyed participating (and eagerly looked to see who had achieved the best time for each task). I wish the media would think like that too.... I presume the media demand for medals as the only indicator of success is not solely an Australian phenomenon? How many of the best stories about the Olympics are not about the medal winners? Most of them probably.

I stand in awe of everyone who finished. It doesn't matter how long it took...you finished!

If I hadn't had to drop out first thing I'm sure I'd have ended up dropping out or being the very last one to finish sometime around Christmas this year. I don't know how you all did it in the times you did.

    AMAZING!

zorba_scank Thanks for the Sprint, Wes and Kyle. It was great fun and I would never have made so much headway on the Pangalactic challenge without it. Of course it was much easier for me since I was part of a team and wrote only half the quizzes. Hat's off to those who did this solo!

Well done to everyone and thanks to Kyle and Wes for the pain :)
Thanks everyone for the congrats as well. Zorba and I had fun writing together and it's always good to get more quizzes online.

I've submitted my 11th, which wasn't really needed because Mariamir's was already on line. Will have the final one submitted in the next couple of days. Loved this Sprint, even though I crawled at the end.

Uh, no, my 11th is...still needing some II. Sorry, I thought you knew.

And yes, we are definitely inching forwards verrrry slowly. :)

That makes the round 11 results file official - no changes to the provisional score, the one Rvsn was already in there.

    On to round 12!
