It has seemed, over the past weeks, that some of our authors (specifically some of our racers) have had a bit of trouble acclimatizing to a slower pace. This is a reasonable thing to say-- I've had the pleasure of pushing you guys around FunTrivia for a good couple months (and longer) to write way out of your comfort zones. Some people just want more. Luckily, I do too.

That's why we're going for a FunTrivia Sprint.

This Sprint, like the Race, is not for the author who isn't ready to get their hands dirty and explore new grounds...quickly. The rules are as follows:

  • Wes and I have both created sprint courses; both are different.

  • Sprinters will be able to complete the Sprint as individuals or in teams of two. Once you figure out if you're going alone or in a double, you will need to choose one of the following options:
    * Normal Pairs: One member of the pair must complete either K or W.
    * Normal single: Play either K or W for each round. You choose which one you want.
    * Hardcore single: Choose K or W on the first task, stick with it for the rest of the game.
    * Hardcore pairs: On each set, one must complete K and one W.

  • Sprinters will receive tasks via the Lounge here-- even if you're not sprinting you'll be able to see the tasks as they appear.

  • There are a predetermined amount of tasks and all sprinters will receive the clues at the same time. This is not a race against competitors; it is a race for yourselves. This leads into the most important point.

  • Authors will have five days to write the quiz. This does not include queue times. The timer begins when the task is announced and ends when the quiz goes online.

The tasks will vary in many ways-- some will take authors to categories they never believed they would be able to visit and others may involve some of the site's most popular authors and quizzes.

If you wish to sign up, let us know here.
**If you wish to attempt the Hardcore options, please note whether you would like to select set A or set B. You will not know whose set is whose until we begin the sprint.

The Sprint will commence on April 15th.

I'm damned if I can figure out times. I just realised that the Homepage is showing 10:30 pm - ish.

So you mean the Homepage's next 9:30 am ?

Oh Looney - good - an Australian! Does that mean our 1 am -ish tonight?

Clues are already out... 13 hours ago was 9:47am. So it is currently 10:47Pm funtrivia time. So 13 hours ago is when your clue will arrive. ;-)

Thought so, L_T. Just checking. I have a quiz which is perfectly suited to one of the tasks, and I thought I could get away with submitting that and being a naughty panda. ;)

Doesn't matter though, I've got a better idea I'm working on right now.

--- I agree with Sue. Posting three or four rankings for a select few isn't all that helpful for newer participants. Even the people/teams who might be at the bottom would like to see how they fared overall. Shouldn't we wait until ALL the folks who have submitted for the first task have been accepted before posting ANY results? Otherwise, it just seems kinda discouraging in my opinion (s'okay, I don't expect anyone to actually agree with me - so stop throwing tomatoes, I have enough of them growing quite well in my greenhouse LOL).

Jakeroo - all the scores (except for a team's or player's secondary) are in the spreadsheet image. I just put the respective race leaders in a highlight. I'll post the additional quizzes and their times separately.

--There are at least one or two participants who have not really "finished" the first task, per se. Is there a reason we are moving along with the next task regardless? Do you hope to encourage NEW writers in this way? Yes, sure they can AVOID looking at new clues until several DAYS from now...but...honestly, what is the hurry, considering this race is so very much different from the amazing one?

This is always a trade-off between starting early for some and waiting too long for the main group. If out of 35 authors, 33 are waiting for their next task, it would also be unfair to those to make everyone wait until the editors have approved the last two (we're waiting for the edit queue on those quizzes, not the authors). We want the game to move with a quiz every 7 to 10 days if anyhow possible because that's what most participants are comfortable with to maintain the "race" feel.

If editing delays should seriously affect an author's ability to keep pace, we'll insert a longer break. (as a side note to authors - if you are affected by a long wait and then get a correction, feel free to write and submit the next round *before* dealing with the CN. You will likely have a shorter wait on the second one and can then have the CN processed before the next round. Again - corrections are NOT timed!)

--- Also (just because I'm a nitpicky person in general - you can throw cucumbers, as they will take several months to mature here lol) could times be posted with either a pm/am after it OR a 24 hour clock? 9:25 isn't all that helpful - it could be 09:25 (am) or it could be 9:25 p.m. which would be 21:25.

Yeah - it was just an oversight because it was on a "clues coming out now" warning (which just looked 5 mins ahead).

Oh... (and I suppose I should have asked the question before I "did the deed")... Do edits made after the quiz is online (and which are not the result of correction notices) change your final time? I just made a 4 word change to the intro on the black quiz because I hated my own wording... and then I thought, uhoh... lol

Time goes only from clicking the clue until submission. Rejections get noted, but the time involved doesn't count. From that, I would assume that editing also does not count - how hard would that be to keep track of! If you had such a serious correction to make that you actually had to take the quiz offline and resubmit it, that might be noted, I don't know - only Kyle and Wes can tell how much time thay can afford to spend monitoring the hundreds of quizzes we will have by the end of this. :D

Four words won't restart the timer if the quiz went online.

Wes, just a suggestion for the results table: Is it possible to add an extra column where each author's best time is recorded? i.e. the "personal best". It seems that we will have our total time and the most recent time. This might help some (e.g. me!) to aim for a new quickest time.

I'm not intending this to be a mechanism for competition between players, but if someone wants bragging rights that's fine :-)

Does anyone else think this is worthwhile?
