It has seemed, over the past weeks, that some of our authors (specifically some of our racers) have had a bit of trouble acclimatizing to a slower pace. This is a reasonable thing to say-- I've had the pleasure of pushing you guys around FunTrivia for a good couple months (and longer) to write way out of your comfort zones. Some people just want more. Luckily, I do too.

That's why we're going for a FunTrivia Sprint.

This Sprint, like the Race, is not for the author who isn't ready to get their hands dirty and explore new grounds...quickly. The rules are as follows:

  • Wes and I have both created sprint courses; both are different.

  • Sprinters will be able to complete the Sprint as individuals or in teams of two. Once you figure out if you're going alone or in a double, you will need to choose one of the following options:
    * Normal Pairs: One member of the pair must complete either K or W.
    * Normal single: Play either K or W for each round. You choose which one you want.
    * Hardcore single: Choose K or W on the first task, stick with it for the rest of the game.
    * Hardcore pairs: On each set, one must complete K and one W.

  • Sprinters will receive tasks via the Lounge here-- even if you're not sprinting you'll be able to see the tasks as they appear.

  • There are a predetermined amount of tasks and all sprinters will receive the clues at the same time. This is not a race against competitors; it is a race for yourselves. This leads into the most important point.

  • Authors will have five days to write the quiz. This does not include queue times. The timer begins when the task is announced and ends when the quiz goes online.

The tasks will vary in many ways-- some will take authors to categories they never believed they would be able to visit and others may involve some of the site's most popular authors and quizzes.

If you wish to sign up, let us know here.
**If you wish to attempt the Hardcore options, please note whether you would like to select set A or set B. You will not know whose set is whose until we begin the sprint.

The Sprint will commence on April 15th.

I think I'll be spending 40 days in the wilderness on this one! Work has very rudely interrupted :-(

My first Sport's Quiz is on line! I would report it on Kyle's thread, but I am not sure that mypartner Marissa (aka Mariamir) has clicked thre for the clue if she is intending to write one, so I will only say it is online here.

Round 3 standings are now final with all scores. After the first quarter of the track, at least 4 players are still on track to complete the entire sprint with a total time of less than 24 hours. Not that I'd see it as likely since some of the later tasks are more difficult than the early ones, but then we can still hope and be surprised!

How many tasks are there in the sprint Wes?

    ok stupid question 12? lol!

Oh I don't like that bit about some of the later tasks being more difficult. I'm going to worry now

    Where's the chocolate?

Of course they are more difficult - not impossibly so, but we're slightly upping the ante as we go (remember that even the same task might be much more complex if we just attach "you can't use a category you used before")

If I had been paying attention in the beginning (I didn't think I had made it in time to start, I think that's the extra 5 days), I'd be third place. I'm still pretending that five days 2 1/2 hours (ish) didn't happen. Lol. So my goal is to finish in under a day, excluding my faux pas to start.

So... In under six days. :-P

Oh yeah. 12 days. We might be able to complete the sprint in under 24 days. :D

triviaking162 Can I get a refresher on the rejection penalties? Or can someone tell me where it is?

    4th to 9th - 1 hour each
    10th to 12th - 2 hours each
    13th and up - 4 hours each.

Well I am finally caught up.... Took a huge hit on the round 3 (7 Days).... :) Didn't know how to find the author challenge titles so created my own title and hit submit. Then I had to wait for that title to clear before I could submit the next one..... :( Makes me very sad because my completion for both the quizzes was actually quite fast....Oh well now it seems it is about finishing the sprint instead of working for a fast time :) Still thanks for the adventure Kyle and Wes :)

The Sprint is definitely an endurance feat-- I think as people go along they'll realize that simply getting to the end intact is the real test. We've got some doozies on the way. ;)

When's the next leg start, Kyle and Wes? I have to have minor surgery today and have a dopey looking eyepatch on for a couple of days. It's hard to type and I look like a tubby pirate

Haven't decided yet. Likely mid-next week? We'll know within the next couple of days.

Coachpauly, I assume you saw all the postings telling you various routes to accessing the titles?

As a general rules information for all players (due to a case we had on my round 4 clue):

If you submit a quiz with a title and category that is within the clue for the round, but an editor changes it to something that will not fit during the edit process, you must write a new quiz to the same clue. However, that rewrite will NOT be timed (your submission time remains that of the first written quiz), instead you will be given two revisions (so a maximum of 8 hours loss) as a penalty.

This does however not apply if your submission was already outside the clue's rules when you sent it in - in that case, the wrong quiz will count as never written for the sprint (since you didn't follow the clue) and only the new one will count.

So be sure that you do follow the rules!
