It has seemed, over the past weeks, that some of our authors (specifically some of our racers) have had a bit of trouble acclimatizing to a slower pace. This is a reasonable thing to say-- I've had the pleasure of pushing you guys around FunTrivia for a good couple months (and longer) to write way out of your comfort zones. Some people just want more. Luckily, I do too.

That's why we're going for a FunTrivia Sprint.

This Sprint, like the Race, is not for the author who isn't ready to get their hands dirty and explore new grounds...quickly. The rules are as follows:

  • Wes and I have both created sprint courses; both are different.

  • Sprinters will be able to complete the Sprint as individuals or in teams of two. Once you figure out if you're going alone or in a double, you will need to choose one of the following options:
    * Normal Pairs: One member of the pair must complete either K or W.
    * Normal single: Play either K or W for each round. You choose which one you want.
    * Hardcore single: Choose K or W on the first task, stick with it for the rest of the game.
    * Hardcore pairs: On each set, one must complete K and one W.

  • Sprinters will receive tasks via the Lounge here-- even if you're not sprinting you'll be able to see the tasks as they appear.

  • There are a predetermined amount of tasks and all sprinters will receive the clues at the same time. This is not a race against competitors; it is a race for yourselves. This leads into the most important point.

  • Authors will have five days to write the quiz. This does not include queue times. The timer begins when the task is announced and ends when the quiz goes online.

The tasks will vary in many ways-- some will take authors to categories they never believed they would be able to visit and others may involve some of the site's most popular authors and quizzes.

If you wish to sign up, let us know here.
**If you wish to attempt the Hardcore options, please note whether you would like to select set A or set B. You will not know whose set is whose until we begin the sprint.

The Sprint will commence on April 15th.

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

I was wondering that myself. Though I'm sure there are several tasks that still haven't been put online yet, which is why there hasn't been talk of the next task yet. I know mine has been sitting in the queue for a while now.

Kyle and myself are currently discussing the exact timing for the next one. Count on a Sunday release, in the morning FT time. Exact time to follow when we know the weekend weather :)

    It'll be between 6 and 7am FST.

Hmmm, another week of self-control as I avoid clicking the threads - it will be released when my quiz-writing time for this week ends. The pain of not knowing what is going on!

Fortunately for me, I am on summer vacation so the timing of the clues doesn't affect me as much! I won't be able to complete the quiz Sunday morning when the clue comes out. I will have to wait until Sunday night or Monday morning, but that takes nowhere near the amount of self control you will have to show!

triviaking162 I'm in a fiasco here! I submitted a flag quiz into the "Flags and Symbols" category, only to find that the "World Flags" subcategory is closed to submissions. Now I'm trying to find an idea that'll work with my title. My 6 day queue wait time didn't help me either (but I know its long in some cases).

Before you write a quiz that you think will go to some particular category, it's always a good idea to use Browse Categories on the Quizzes menu to look at it first. If you play the quizzes that are already there, you will get an idea of the kind of quiz that fits there, and may realize that there is another category that looks like an even better spot for your quiz. While you browse, you will you see if there is a big red message saying it is a closed category; you can play the quizzes that are already there, and avoid duplicating questions, another common reason for having a quiz sent back for more work. (This isn't a sermon, just passing on a lesson learned the hard way for myself. Good research before starting to write a quiz can save lots of time in the long run, even when you are itching to get started with the writing.)

By the end of the whole sprint, the fastest score might well not be with the player who wrote the fastest but the only one who has managed to avoid all minor or major disasters along the way.

Will miracles never cease? I've submitted Mariamir and my Task 8 quiz for Kyle's thread, entitled "Only Forever" in Movies. We'll see how quickly it goes on line. I had to travel to the opposite coast of the US to be with an ailing relative in between starting and finishing this one, which explains the extra delay. At least it is in before the next set of clues comes out!

Here's a new one from Jackeroo and Barracuda. Enjoyed it :)

Thanks Playmate! I was going to post the link in Kyle's thread (since that's where we took the task from) but I see from above that there's a new clue, so I'd better not LOL!

I'm going to bed so I won't be tempted to look at it until tomorrow

Mariamir Wes, I just realized that I mixed up the theme for my quiz with the quote at the end, and the title I posted in such a hurry in your thread was not the one I intended to use. Nor is it the one in my quiz. What do I do? Can I go with the one that I meant to post, but for some reason (don't ask me, I don't know) I didn't, or do I have to write a whole new quiz with the one I posted? Sorry for the mix-up.

Mariamir, I answered you by PM in this case since I would be giving away what the clue type is.

We just lost the football on a penalty shoot out (again!) so do I drown my sorrows or write a quiz. May have a drink or two while I think about that one.

Sorry for your loss, Christinap... although in the end it wouldn't have made any difference, what with Germany waiting to stomp on whomever won. :D

That's true, and to be fair Italy deserved to win, they were the better team. Hopefully they will beat Germany and go on to win the tournment. Never so bad when you loose to the eventual winner.
